Anyone out there running into this same problem? My Dr. is now putting me on predisone....does it work?

Yes klutch, many people have had a medication that once worked well stop working.

Many folks have also used a prednisone taper to break a cycle while they allow a preventative to get into their system.

Lots of new things are in the wings for CH treatment, including research on our fungus friends to get a medication out of it. Lots of info on this on the med boards.

In the meantime, O2 is a standard, Verapamil as a preventative, and if you haven't tried imitrex try and get some of that.

According to the survey here, prednisolone is one of the most effective abortives for the episodic CH variety. It works for many people, but not all.
Typically, you'll start with a large dose, then taper off to zero over several days. Results vary. For some, it breaks the cycle completely. For others, it stops the attacks for several days, and they return again as soon as the prednisolone is gone. Also depends on the dose schedule.

Pred will stop my attacks dead in thier tracks. I mean that first day of 60mg and no attacks. I use those Medrol dose paks. I'm HA free for the 60mg, 50mg, 40mg and maybe the 30mg days but the attacks return when I get down to 20mg. It's nice getting a few nights sleep though.

I'm the same with BobP.....when I get down to 20mgs the Beast returns like wildfire >:( Sorry klutch that your meds are no longer working...take the Prednisone Holiday and let us know how it works for you....

Thanks to all. I will start my predisone tonight. 60 MG here I come! Worried about the supposed weight gain, anyone have any issues with that? ??? ???

Hi There

Maxalt dont help me at all

This is my coctail

Verapamil Retard 120mgX5-7/daily during cycle 3 weeks after last hit tapering down with 1 verap every 3/4 days until you are on 1 a day.1 a day for another 2 weeks you can decide to quit the verap or take 1 a day.Oxygene alone at 10ltm for 15 minutes or combined with imitrex-shots does miracles.The shots should start working in 6-9minutes.a few seconds after that you are almost painfree
Prednisolone in high doze for 10 days 80mg
then over a 3 weeks periode step down like 70-60-50-40-30-20-10-5mg every 3/4 day
This work fine for me

So far, Pred. has aborted my son's cycle. No weight gain problems since he only uses it for a short time twice per year. It has really been a Godsend for him.

I had major weight issues with pred, but I was on high doses for 8 weeks. If you are on the taper, like described above, and are off within 2 weeks I dont' think it should be an issue at all.

You may want to start a preventative during the pred treatment though so that when you come off the pred you have something working in your system to help control the beast.

Prednisone did not work for me. Sent attacks into irregular frequency.

Verapamil, Imitrex and o2 for me.

The Prednisone is not working. Have not had one damn day without the devil showing up. Took 60 mg the first three days, 50 mg the last three. Granted it's only down to one or two visits a day but this $20 for six maxalts is killing me.

Thanks to all who offered concern, I will keep fighting. This will not be the end of me.

How YOU doin klutch ;D ........is anything workin for you yet ? Seems I have read on here that maxalt has not worked for alot of people or stopped working......have you tried imitrex or the injections deal ? Seems people here say that is a good deal. Hope yer findin sum relief.....and keep us posted tay ? Pam that hates to see people in pain

Only two attacks yesterday. Took Maxalt right when I felt the first one coming on, took care of it in about 10 minutes. Second one I was not so fortunate, waited like a dumbass and hit about 5 on the Kip Scale before I knew what was going on. Calling the Dr. today since the prednisone is not working at all.

Thanks for the update Klutch....have you tried imitrex....I'm sure you've been asked that question b-4 or maybe you mentiond you tried it and it didn;t work and I missed it (blond moment).... but it seems ta work for alot of people here....guess the injections are the cats meow ! Pam that loves cats but not injections ;D ;D
