My neuro gave me some Frovatriptan samples on Thursday. He told me that FrovaT was a 24 hour medicine and that it was "Time Released"
I went home that day and did not work that night ( I work 2nd ) About 3pm, i started getting a shadow. Not really a CH yet, just letting me know it was going to come. So i decided to take 1 of the FrovaTriptans. Within 1 hour or so, the shadow was completely gone, and sure enough, when i went to bed last night, I slept very soundly. In fact my head felt normal. It lasted almost 24 hours until the shadow came back and the the beast jumped up on my head about 3pm. I knew it was too late to take another FrovaT, so i took 1 of my last 2 Nasal sprays to stop it. I know FrovaT's are not meant to be preventatives, But darn, He gave me about 12 for free. I am going to try another tonight before i go to bed and see if it will take me all the way to the next day.
I start my Depakote treatments also tonight. How long before the Depakotes start actually preventing the CH's if they actually do?

FROVA is good stuff.

My doc says you can take it once a day like a vitamin. No harm. See what yours thinks....

Patrick_A Frova is not a prevent it is to abort once
you start getting a migrain or CH and should last about 10-14 hours.I took it for my low kips ch i need the imitrex injections for the higher kips.

Patrick,
Frova was part of what I took for this cycle along with Verapamil, Depakote, Imitrex spray and o2.

I feel that the Frova, which I took before going to bed, minimized the attacks at night. I credit the Frova because this is the first time I've taken it, and in the past, the night attacks were numerous and unstoppable. Still had some visits but slept pretty good during this cycle.

I would rather have an attack during the day than at night for obvious reasons.

No harm but why would you want to do that with an abortive?

Thats like getting up in the morning and injecting some imitrex when I'm not under attack. Doesn't make sense.

Don,
My take is that if you take what might be considered an abortive to prevent the number of attacks, than it becomes a preventative. Futhermore, since it is slow release medication, it should not be compared to injecting Imitrex.

Patrick,
It must be expensive because the gate keepers for the insurance companies limit the quantity per month to about nine (9). Tough to take one per day at that rate. You may have to get your Neuro to insist on an over-ride. Mine did and it worked.
