Title: Blood Pressure during a CH
Post by Roxy on Jul 8th, 2003, 12:41pm
Has anyone ever taken their blood pressure during a hit?

The other day, when my head was ramping up pretty good, a friend slapped the cuff on my arm and took my bp.  It was 165/135.... :o, and I wasn't even fully into the ch at that point (was probably around a 7).  I'm not sure I want to know what it will climb to in the middle of a 10.  I know my body temp shoots up, but I didn't realize the bp would go that high.

I did some searches, but can't find where this was talked about before.

I got hit in the waiting room at the docs office (great timing!) and when I finally got called.. it was barely on the downslide but my b/p was 170/140.. that is HUGELY high for me when mine normally is 100/70.. guess the beast really can rock the whole body..

I am normally in the 100's/60's and even as low as 90's over 50's for a normal bp.  Last hit I got (not even a 10) I had my bp taken and it was at 156/89, the highest my bp has ever been (to my knowledge).

Not only does my bp go up, and my temp, but also when they checked my ESR (sed rates) during an attack, my sed rates were at 77, normal is between 1-20.  Sed rates indicate a severe infection or inflammation somewhere in the body.  I've asked before, but it seems no one else has had that test done, or at least not during an attack.

It certainly does play havoc with our bodies.

This is something that is really really worrying me about Wes...thankfully since the heart attack he's not been back in cycle but im scared if he comes into cycle that it will affect him, especially after reading that the blood pressure does rise during hits.... :-/

My blood pressure goes really high when I am getting hit.  The dr said that it is common for people in pain to have a high blood pressure.  I have my bp taken frequently when I am getting hit so I know this is a routine experinece for me.

when I was at the VA getting a check up I had an attack. My vitals went to bp 190/115 and my pulse dropped to 35.

I have borderline high blood pressure, 130/80, and I now take verapamil daily to keep it down to about 115/75. I have never had my blood pressure taken during a CH, but it must be super high because I can literally feel the veins in my head pounding away.

It scares the bejeebers out of me because my Dad died of a brain aneurism (sp?). I got my high BP from him and likely his thin-walled veins too ... yikes! I tend to go into denial about this whenever possible ...  :P

High blood pressure is a very scary...leads to stroke I believe.

My headache was so bad the other day that my friends could not stand to see me suffer any longer, so they took me to the emergency room.  My bp was 165/111, which is extremly high for someone my age.  Had they not been able to get it down to a more reasonable level, they would have admitted me.

All, be very cautious w/ bp.  Of course, when you have the kind of head pain I do, your bp will register 'off-the-charts', but its important to try to keep it under control to prevent a CH from turning into a stroke.

NLA

While in cycle and visiting my GP, he took my BP and it read 145/120. The doc insisted I had high BP and put me on medication. I tried to tell him it was the CH, the visit, yadda, yadda, yadda, but what the hell do I know.
My BP last month when visiting the doc was 100/70 un medicated. Go figure.  ;)

I tried to start a thread going on just this subject 2 or 3 months ago and the general opinion was that the raised bp was effect, rather than cause. I personally remain unconvinced, for me the jury is still out.
My own experience when I am suffering an attack is that my bp goes up from a normal 125 - 130 over 70 - 75, to 135 - 140 over 85 - 90. Most medical opinion I have sought tells me that this sort of change is insignificant and is explained by the pain of the ch, but: -
1)   my ch peaks at around 7 or 8 Kip, not all that unusual as I have a long history of migraine too,
2)   my bp when not having ch is consistently in the lower range above  -  I had to monitor it regularly for around 8 months to eliminate bp as a factor with other problems.
3)   for around 6 months I was taking a very low dose of a diuretic, Bendrofluazide, which also tends to lower bp. Within 3 days of my GP taking me off this medication I was back in cycle.

I have never taken my BP during an attack but I too, know that it must be through the roof. This last year I have really been concerned about my heart (must be all that Verapamil) and the possibility of stroke. It takes nothing to make my heart thump like crazy and it scares me sometimes....anyone else have any thoughts on this or am I just being paranoid?

Durring a kip 8 at work, my bp was  165/93 and my pulse was 168    Durring a nitetime attack kip 10 my BP was 85/45 and my pulse was 55   I dont think that BP has anything to do with CH.. I got hit high, i got hit low, just my .02   .............andy

Yep, my BP is normally on the low side.  But everytime they take my pressure in the ER during a 10 it has skyrocketed!  If they are able to stop the h/a or at least make it subside, they take the bp again and it is much lower.  Doesn't bp always go up when we are under extreme stress?
