Title: I'm back!!! (oh and I really need some help!)
Post by TraceaTX on Jul 7th, 2003, 10:12pm
Ok folks, I am back.  It has been about a month since I last posted.  In that time I was placed on short-term disability x 4 weeks and told to "chill out" to try and break this cycle (been going strong since March).  So...I drove from Houston to Albuquerque to visit family.

The headaches NEVER got better and were some of the worst I have had since last October (prior to correct diagnosis).  The doc had reduced all my meds prior to my trip to just three (Indomethacin, Effexor, Cafergot) twice a day with Imitrex and O2 for abortive measures. I couldn't sleep after they took me off the Seroquil so I put myself back on that (fricken h/a were going to wake me up anyway thru the night, might as well have a fighting chance to fall asleep).  No real help.

I am going to consult the neurosurgeon next Wed as my doc says it is really all that is left since I have not responded to ANY medicinal treatment satisfactorily.  I am so tired and depressed...I hate my head.  Hell, pot doesn't even help (can't get shrooms).  Of course alcohol is a no-no.

I think my family is sick of me crying about my headaches and ya'all are the only ones I can really turn to.  (Anyone live in Houston?)

Thanks for letting me vent (again)...

Tracea

Really? Just chilling out didn't get rid of your headaches for you? And I thought we were onto the miracle cure here. Who suggested trying that to break your cycle? I hope it wasn't your doctor. But since he thought reducing your meds would help, one never knows.
Are you at a neurologist now or a regular doc? Actually, whatever kind it is I'd go to a different one anyway, but making sure it's a neurologist. Because, frankly, your doctor sucks if he both reduced your meds, potentially was the one to say try chilling out to break the cycle and then refers an episodic to a neuroSURGEON. Hell, that shouldn't be refered to a chronic who is in constant cycle.

The one that told me to chill and reduced my meds was my doc's associate....(my doc is Dr ninan Mathew from the Headache Clinic in Houston - Dr Mathew is a renowned expert in CH- his associate on the other hand......)

I see Dr M on Friday and hopefully we can get this straightened out.

Yeah, I am not really sure about the whole surgery thing....all I know is I want to get back to work and life.

I'd say Dr Mathews needs to kick his associates A S S!  But only after you get in the first round of swift kicks.

Wow Tracea, I have to say I'm very surprised.  You and I go to the same Dr., and his treatment program for me is completely different than from you.  You are on some meds that he and I have never even talked about.  I know he believes in prednisone to break a cycle, have you tried that yet?  If you are having problems, I would just talk to him about them, he has always been pretty receptive in the past.  Has he never suggested verapamil?  That was the first thing he put me on.  If you haven't tried verap, I would be sure to tell him you want to try it.

Can't believe he hasn't mentioned botox to you....he's big on that right now...... ::)

Let me know how it goes,
Tracey

BTW:  How did you get stuck with an associate?  I've never seen anyone but Dr. Mathew when I have my appointments.  Just tell them you don't want to talk to anyone but him.
