Title: We've lost a lot of good ones lately....
Post by 9erfan on Jul 4th, 2003, 5:00pm
I just realized we sure have lost a lot of good people from the entertainment industry in the last couple of weeks...

David Brinkley, Gregory Peck, Katherine Hepburn, Buddy Hackett, and today I just heard that the King of Love Songs, Barry White has died!  He was just on the Today show 2 days ago.  There was someone else who passed the week that Brinkley & Peck did...I just can't recall who.

Sad couple of weeks for the entertainment world.   :'(  Geez, it was 20 years ago that I wrote a paper about Katherine Hepburn for my Creative Writing class in High School.   :'( I willl miss her!

Geez Jonny!  You act like I'm the first person who ever started a thread that wasn't cluster-related!
Sorry I caught you on a day when you're being a dick-head!

Just an idle question that is sort of relevant to the posts above.

If 0.1% of the population get CH, some famous people must get it.
If so, where the fuck are they and why aren't they publicising it for us.
In the old days of Hollywood, having a medical condition and talking about it would be career suicide, but my thought is that it is quite fashionable to have an interesting disease/addiction/sexual preference now.

SO WHERE ARE THEY?

Yes, I totally agree with WTB. I bet one major star coming forward as a CHer could have dramatic impact!! My guess is they don't know about this site!! I didn't for 15 yrs of Ch suffering!! In one night, while being plagued with attack after attack I got on line and hit cluster headaches/GO. There you all were. The Imitrex tip alone was worth the price of admission.

Huh? Do you think that's a large number or something? Why does that mean famous people must get it? And let's say they do. Let's break that down to correctly diagnosed. Or willing to tell their director/producer that they should know this in case they want to spend millions more waiting for them to get over "a headache."
Goodbye Brinkley, Hep and all of you that added life to ours!

Brinkley had a style that most journalist of today try to immitate; he is the bar most strive for and fail to meet. Peck and Hepburn were marvelous actors/actresses. Buddy Hackett was one funny dude; he could cuss like a drunken sailor just like Redd Fox. Barry White....what a voice! I will miss them.

You're right, it has been a tough week for celebrities. This shit's supposed to happen only in threes.

Frank Capra is the only Hollywood type I know of with CH.  Civil War General Upton was known to have horrible headaches, and committed suicide in the 1880s I think. Makes me wonder.

I too, don't think Tony's dead. Still, I don't get his really stupid email anymore. Prick thought I liked him.

Ted raises a very good point.  Off the top of my head (thankfully not exploding at the moment) it occurs to me that as fashionable as it might appear to have a rare disease in hollywood, it can definitely be a career killer - witness the marvelous and courageous michael j. fox.

Better to get the disease after you've long made your bones - i.e. chuck heston last year.

I have no doubt that there are movie people we would probably think are quite famous who suffer from CHs.  But I'll also bet that of those who know what they've got, only their closest confidantes know the truth.  Movie making is far too expensive to have to wait around for a star to recover from an attack.  And imagine if a lengthy cycle hit just as a picture was starting.... man oh man.

Interesting to think of other occupations though.  Personally, even though I've worked in the movie industry in LA, I would have nothing more than the same sympathy for an actor suffering as I would have for anyone else.  They're coddled more than enough.

But an airline pilot, now that's something different.....

My guess is that famous or celebrity people have CHs  and have probably visited this messageboard... maybe even regularly. But many celebrities get sick and tired of being celebrities and want to be regular people sometimes too. So they may be here and don't talk about what they do for a living, unless asked (and may lie about it anyway).

Michael Jackson was nearly arrested in Simi Valley, CA in 1989 after jewelery store employees called police about a suspicious person. He had donned a wig, fake moustache, false teeth and eyelashes to go shopping. Officers had him remove his disguise and show his identification.

The guy looks like a freak without a disguise. I wonder if the wig and moustache were even worse?
