Title: BOB P & Indocine/Indomethacine

Anyone on this site who hasn't tried Indocine to rule out CPH is nuts!  It's so easy and cheap.  I've always felt that there are a lot of people suffering here needlessly.  They are trying to treat CH when they really have CPH.

Try Indocine, then move on to CH treatments if that doesn't work

That's not always true.  My neuro tried me on Indocine first and that didn't work so he treated me for clusters for 2 years.  Then he gave up when nothing worked and sent me to the Leiden Medical University.  They prescribed Indomethacine Retard 75 and I'm still amazed by the improvement.  Not all CPHer and EPHers respond to Indocine or Indomethacine.

Just my 2 cents.  But you're right the DRs should start with these drugs and then switch to CH drugs.

"The IHS requires disappearance of the headache attacks of chronic paroxysmal hemicrania during indomethacin therapy, in a dose of 150 mg or less per day, for the diagnosis to be established. But this criterion has been challeged, in view of reports of a few patients whose headaches responded partially or not at all to indomethacin, even though their headaches were otherwise typical of chronic paroxysmal hemicrania."

You're correct.  There are exceptions.  My point is that there are people here, shooting up Imitrex numerous times a day, when indo would stop their headaches completely.

BOB

I totally agree with you.  Drs should try all PH meds before trying CH meds.

yeah there's an exception to every rule and unfortunately for me i'm usually the exception :P

That was the first thing my doctor put me on so long ago (14 years?).  All indo did for me was eat my stomach until I needed help for that (protonix is a wonderful thing)

Agree, agree agree

Even though I think I have clusters and not CPH (attacks bit too long, 45 mins, and 6 attacks max), indomethacine works great to cut off heavy shadowing for a cpl of days (100mg suppo), or to control attacks before verapamil starts to work. Hope it keeps on doing that........

I tried Indocin years ago and I felt that it helped me for awhile.  It never got rid of my h/a's but it lessened them.  Does that mean I don't have clusters?  But after about a year, it wasn't doing anything for me so they took me off of it and started trying other things....still haven't found my magic combo.. ???
