Title: nice, real nice (Updated, good news)
Post by Melissa on Dec 19th, 2005, 9:14am
It's a good thing I didn't reach for my trex, as I just checked the interactions between that, and my Cymbalta...

Quote:
Duloxetine (Cymbalta®, Yentreve®) and Sumatriptan (Imitrex®)
Severity: High

These drugs may be used together with caution. Side effects from Duloxetine may get worse if you take Serotonin-Receptor Agonists (also known as "Triptans", drugs for migraine) and vice-versa. "Triptans" for migraine include drugs like Amerge®, Axert®, Imitrex®, Frova-TM, Maxalt®, Relpax®, and Zomig®. The combination may increase the risk of confusion, increased blood pressure or heart rate, loss of coordination, restlessness, sweating, tremor, vomiting, or other serious side effects. Report these or any other unusual effects to your health care provider immediately if they occur. (Last revised: 11/14/2002 10:50:00 PM)

Oh My God.

So sorry for you Mel. I've been reading what you're going through - don't give up. It's just to remind you of how good things will be when you get through it.

Big hug and all the best

andrew

Andrew, thank you.  I am just amazed that my doc didn't even bother to check.  Good thing I did, or else things could have gotten much, much worse. :(

If anyone else reads this, please, please make sure to check drug interactions!!!

I checked with my pharmacist, and through their drug interaction checker, it shows no interaction problems with Cymbalta and Imitrex.  I then called my doctors, and they too, said there is no interactions and it is safe to take the trex with the cymbalta.  WTF??  I got the above info. from the Walmart RX website's drug interaction checker.

Basically, if you're unsure, CALL YOUR DOC OR PHARMACIST!!

Something similar to all of this. All we have here is CVS Drug Stores, and when you go it is a cattle herd in front of you. Two days before Thanksgiving I had three prescriptions to fill--------Prednisone / Verapamil / and Protonix ( to protect my stomach from the pred and verap)---------when I got home they had given me one incorrect drug---when I went back--they almost argued with me like it was my mistake. UNBELIEVABLE

I just looked at webMD for Cymbalta and didn't find any warnings about triptans but there were a bunch of other meds to NOT take with Cymbalta.

I took imitrix 2x the other day for a migraine and had no reaction or problem with it and I am also on cymbalta.  My pharmacist also said there was no interaction to it.  It also cautions use with narcotics which I have had no problems with interactions.  Guess I am a lucky person to beable to tollerate all the meds.

again, do NOT assume your doctor knows what he/she/it is doing....

we all own our problem, not your doctor, take control and do your research.
