Title: Red Bull Post by gobby on Dec 9th, 2005, 12:43am Hey folks.......I just wanted to drop you a line and tell anyone interested about my experiance with Red Bull as an abortive. I am curently in cycle, and am not on any prescriptians (but I do have 3 trex shots left over from my last cycle). Right now I just can't afford a doctors visit or the crazy price of some of these drugs, mostly because my precip. plan sucks!! Anyway, I'm over a month into this cycle and decided to try slamming a Red Bull when I felt the devil comming to call. It reallly seems to have helped ease the severity of the attacks. I'm still getting between 2 and 7 per day, but the worst I've had since beginning this experiment (2 weeks ago)is a kip5 and I've only had one of those. Oh ya, and I usually take 2 aspirin with it. The only side effect I can pinpoint is my use of the bathroom has gone up dramaticaly. I thank everyone here for all the great info and for turning me on to this. I just hope I'll be able to get more than 2 hours of undisturbed sleep soon. (Melatonin dosn't seem to work for me...WAHHH) I pray we are all pain free soon :) |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by gobby on Dec 9th, 2005, 1:02am Oh ya again.........Has anyone tried this with the sugar-free Red Bull? I found that SAM'S club by me only carries cases of this kind, and it is much cheaper than buying it can by can. Thanks again everyone!!! |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by MJ on Dec 9th, 2005, 2:26am Gobby Hi. IMHO I think allmost anything that will create an increased sense of alertness will help a CH attack. I do not think it aborts it but it does make it easier. This goes for all the energy drinks and OTC stimulants you might find at a truck stop if your heart is strong. I may get blasted for saying that but I have used the herbal stimulants to make the attacks much cleaner in the past. |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by E-Double on Dec 9th, 2005, 6:38am Read this....... http://www.med-owl.com/clusterheadaches/tiki-index.php?page=Red+Bull It's from our Floridian's online CH book. Tons of info there! |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by mynm156 on Dec 11th, 2005, 12:36pm I cant do the Red Bull thing any stims that elevate my blood pressure trigger me. |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by brewcrew on Dec 11th, 2005, 1:30pm You might want to try substituting the new Mountain Dew MDX for Red Bull. It's got all the same "energy" ingredients (including Taurine), but it tastes a hell of a lot better, IMHO. |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by LeLimey on Dec 11th, 2005, 1:45pm Hello gobby (yikes, why does that sound like I'm talking to myself?! ::) ) I tried both the sugar free and the loaded-to-the-gills-with-sugar versions and the sugar free just didn't help. This is one of those times when you just can't count the calories! |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by gobby on Dec 11th, 2005, 1:58pm That's kinda' funny that you just posted that LeLimey, cause I was just going to post that I tried the sugar-free and it seems to work even better than the regular for me. No kidding!! It really tastes like crap though :P And I tried with a mountain dew Amp the other night........no help at all. These headaches suck, why can't one thing work for everyone!! |
||
Title: Re: Red Bull Post by LeLimey on Dec 11th, 2005, 2:01pm Gobby that would be too easy wouldn't it?! It doesn't surprise me that the sugar free works better for you, it had to be the opposite for someone! The important thing is finding what works for you (and yes - red bull does taste like shite!) Try code red mountain dew or any other high caffeine drinks although the theory of caffeine AND taurine makes sense to me and I don't know if that is in the mountain dew.. find what works for you. And keep us up to date with how you are getting on! Take care Helen |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by brewcrew on Dec 11th, 2005, 2:05pm The MDX has LOTS of caffeine (like 72 mg or something) plus the Taurine. Don't confuse Amp with MDX. I'm not sure what Amp has in it. |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by Kris_in_SJ on Dec 11th, 2005, 8:46pm I'm with Helen on this one - find what works and use it! Caffiene is a vasoconstrictor, regardless of it's form. Personally, I prefer double-shot Latte's, but if Red Bull does it for you, go for it! And, yes, keep us informed. I greatly admire any and all sufferers who go a cycle without med intervention and/or other accepted treatments. Hugs, Kris |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by brewcrew on Dec 11th, 2005, 11:29pm But the "energy" drinks also contain taurine, which is supposed to enhance the effect of caffeine. So, caffeine = good, caffeine + taurine = better. JMHO. |
||
Title: Re: Red Bull Post by gobby on Dec 12th, 2005, 12:22am That's what I was thinking, but the Mountain Dew "AMP" I tried also has caffine and taurine and didn't do anything for me. I was looking at the ingrediants of both drinks and found them just about exactly the same except Red Bull contains "Glucuronolactone" which Amp does not. Maybe this has something to do with it working better for me. |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by imnotbub on Dec 14th, 2005, 11:42am Red Bull (either sugared or sugar free) + Starbucks Cappuccino = :o ;;D |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by gobby on Dec 14th, 2005, 11:49am Ya, that's what I found out. Red Bull seems to work well for me. Wahoooooooooooooooo! [smiley=laugh.gif] and at Sam's Club if you buy a case it comes out to about #1.33 a piece. But they only have sugar free by me. |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by Melissa on Dec 14th, 2005, 12:00pm Anyone try Jolt? Jest wonderin... |
||
Title: Re: Red Bull Post by marlinsfan on Dec 14th, 2005, 1:42pm Red bull & Dew don't work for me. I think it's the citric acid in it. I know Orange Juice triggers attacks for me. So, I drink the Starbucks Espresso Shots in a can. That does the trick if I drink it early enough. And I love the taste too. If the sugar free bull works for you, drink on! |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by Tonya on Dec 15th, 2005, 10:45am New to the site, husband has had CH's since mid 90's. On the Red BUll and other caffine drinks. We were told caffine can be a trigger, ??? Not sure if he should try or not. What do you guys think. I will go to the supporter page and post our story. Thanks, Tonya |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by MJ on Dec 15th, 2005, 11:02am Tonya Everyone seems to have different triggers for CH hits. Caffeine and the like are probably used by a majority of us. Doesnt allways necessarily stop an attack but for me sure helps in keeping alert, wich in my opinion helps overall with CH. I know with many types of other headaches coffee is thought to be a trigger but not with CH that I know of. |
