YES! They are serve different purposes. Verapamil is a prophylactic medication used to decrease frequency of your attacks Imitrex is an abortive med. used to stop an acute attack. Check your other post as well. A lot to learn and you are in the right place! |

Title: Re: verapimil Post by Jasmyn on Dec 4th, 2005, 2:52am What's your dosage of Verap that you take per day? Maybe ask your doc to increase the dosage and don't use the slow release type. Sometimes Verap stops working when the dosage is too small and after taking it for a few years. |

Title: Re: verapimil Post by Squanto on Dec 4th, 2005, 9:15am Boomer52, If you don't already know, Verapamil tends to constipate many folks who take it. When I say "constipate," think major log jam! There many OTC things to help that, but they work best BEFORE the problem shows up. Good luck, Squanto |

That should be considered a low dose. Most who get relief from Verapamil are taking 480 - 960mg/day but some can't handle those dosages because of blood pressure problems (being too low) UNsolved |

Title: Re: verapimil Post by boomer52 on Dec 4th, 2005, 1:16pm Thanks, I'll try a higher dose. I quit my doctor after he told me he couldn't help me, to just go to the emergency room. The emergency room docs tend to try about anything I recomend. |

I quit my doctor after he told me he couldn't help me, to just go to the emergency room. The emergency room docs tend to try about anything I recomend. AAAAAAAAAArgh! That just totally pisses me off. I have had numerous physicians who knew less about CH than I did but NEVER one who quit on me. Lame, lame LAME! Glad you quit and hope you find someone responsible and caring and professional enough to RESEARCH. Emergency room? Fine, if you want to let people with no idea watch you get hit. And, by the time they can see you, it's over! Visit the OUCH board and find a local physician that can help. Regards Jon |

Title: Re: verapimil Post by boomer52 on Dec 4th, 2005, 2:15pm Yes, the times I have went to the er, I was mostly over the pain by the time they saw me, but they were more sympathetic than my doc. Alot of the nurses tell me they understand because they get migrains. I don't say anything, but I always think, whatever. |

Title: Re: verapimil Post by boomer52 on Dec 5th, 2005, 10:16am I doubled the verapamil from 240mg to 480mgs a day and so far since yesterday no headaches. Probably just a fluke, but am hoping. Thanks everyone for the info. |

Title: Re: verapimil Post by bnfreeman on Dec 7th, 2005, 9:35pm The verapamil makes me sooo sleepy. And yes it can be rough on the tummy. Sometimes beer will cause a hit and sometimes it won't. When it does I go straight to the O2. verapamil is also combined with Lithium in a lot of cases and seems to work. Best wishes. Brandi |
