Title: Verapamil vs. Nifedepine. Post by phydeaux on Oct 15th, 2005, 9:16pm Hey all! I have been chronic for about 4 years now, give or take a little. No meds (or alternates, like O2 or kudzu) had any meaningful impact on me until I got onto Verapamil. Some of you may have seen my posts about the Verapamil experience. The short version is, for 5 months I was wonderfully virtually pain free and loving life. But the side effects of the Verapamil (Severe edema in the legs which led to a severe staph infection) got to be too much and I had to be taken off. So my Dr. (Neil Raskin, love him! Bit of a curmudgeon, but MAN does he know his jit!) put me on Nifedepine (not sure of the spelling there, stick with me here....) at40mg twice a day, then 60mg twice a day, and was planned for 80mg twice a day. But the day I hit the 60mg, I started having unacceptable side effects. Dizzy spells, unable to concentrate, vomiting, muscle weakness, pain in the legs, and inability to stand for more than a few minutes. Needless to say, this bummed me out, as I had high hopes for the nifedipine, being as it is in the same family as Verapamil. I tried sticking it out for 5 days, and it got no better. Has anyone tried this, and should I have stuck it out longer? Since I came off the verapamil, the HA have been SOOO much worse. It's like my body is trying to make up for all the lost pain I could have been inflicted. Thanks to all, and PFDAN for each and everyone. |
