Title: Having a kudzu problem...
Post by Leggs on Aug 1st, 2005, 6:45pm
I have been bruising really easily lately, ie: having a scratch fit on my poison ivy, and woke up the next day with bruises all over.  I have been tested before for things that cause this, and I have nothing.

I know that garlic, flaxseed oil and kudzu all have a similar action, in that they are used to help with blood pressure.  I recall once before, when i started garlic after I was already taking vitamin E, I had the same problem.  I am not willing to stop the flaxseed oil, since it seems to help with menopause issues, but I did stop the garlic.  HOpefully, the bruising/blood thinning type stuff will chill out.

I will keep you all posted.  I recall one person saying bleeding after surgery was possibly attributed to kudzu, and I think I would second this notion.  If anyone goes in for any surgeries, they usually say no aspirin for a week, and for ME at least, I would add, garlic, vitamin E, any oils (flaxseed, omega 3 fatty acids, etc.), and now, kudzu.

I love the zu, I am trying to hand with it. I learned the reason the dosage on mine, solary, is higher, it's because it's standardized/more pure, rather than just ground up like the nature plus, not sure about the other one.

Flo (or someone) will have to help me out here...
...but... my understanding is that kudzu has calcium channel blocking properties that relax blood vessels. It seems to me that bleeding issues and bruising are more of a "thinner" blood issue. Flo? Lizzie2? Somebody?

I don't know anything about garlic (except I like to eat it) or flaxseed oil.

It could be the calcium channel activity, like nani said, or it could be a general anti-coagulant effect.  I would definitely pull back if you are having bruising or other serious side effects.   Garlic also has anti-coagulant activity, as you mentioned, and you may have a susceptibility to these type of foods and meds.

Well, I survived last night skipping my nightly dose, and I also cut out garlic yesterday.  I am sure that willhelp the bruising effect.

I am thinking it's kind of GOOD that happened so I could risk cutting back. I was so scared to, but it seems to be okay.  I cut the evening dose, and didn't get woke up in themiddle of the night.

Glad you slept through the night, T.  Hopefully, your cycle is ending and you can get back to normal. Keep us posted! hugs, nani

It's 3:30 right now, and that's usually another famous time for me to have clusters, so far so good, fingers crossed.

I don't really know how to monitor whether the bruising factor is reduced, short of wacking into a door way with my shin and seeing if it bruises, and I am not into that kind of self inflected pain!  It was directly related, in the past, to doubling up on an "oil" type supplement, and once I cut out one, it was fine.  I have essentially cut out one and a half, so we will see....T.
