Title: ...Back again ya bastards!!!
Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Jun 17th, 2005, 11:31pm
Greetings yet again sufferers.
Not glad to be back here!!!  Have a few questions:
Anyone have a thyroid problem?  I was recently diagnosed with hyperactive thyroid and my doc said that is what probably caused the clusters.  Anyone have thyroid issues?
Can someone tell me what Verapimil is?  Its an alpha blocker or a beta blocker or something like that.  What is it and what does that mean?  I was told i cant take verapimil cause of conflict with Propranolol, but i have taken verapimil in the past and think it helped to break a cycle.
If i cant take a drug like verapimil cause its a thingy-blocker, what other drugs can i take to help the clusters as a daily preventative type ?
Thanks and PF wishes to all.
BMonee

It's a calcium channel blocker.
It lowers BP like Inderal - Propranolol HCl
hence the warning about both.
Thyroid?
not me...
anyone?

The cause of clusters?
sounds like the magic doctor is guessing again.

Yeah, a few people here I can think of have thyroid problems.  If you have clusters, thyroid problems will probably make things worse.  Not the cause, though.

B-man.  Sorry you are getting hit again.  But I think your doc may be barking up the wrong tree, trying to blame your clusters on a throid problem.  There are lots of other preventive drugs you can use, sansert, melatonin, 5htp,......

Edit to add sorry this is thomas.

Hi Brian. Sorry you're getting hit again. I have a sluggish thyroid. Not enough to take any meds for it, I test within "normal" range, but on the low side.
Are you taking propranolol for high BP? If so, verap may work fine for it by itself. Some folks are prescibed propranolol for CH, but verap has a much better track record as a CH prevent.
I've found significant relief with kudzu. It's not for everyone, so read all the links I'll post and talk to your dr about it first. If you have high BP it may also help that some, it has calcium channel blocking properties as well. It is not advisable to use triptans while taking kudzu, however, if it works well for you you wont need to.

Look here for all the tester experiences and threads on this site. Please, read them all (I know it's a lot, but important for you to see the big picture).

Read and print this page and take it to your dr:

Good luck and keep us posted, OK? PF wishes, nani

Hi again...

I had thyroid cancer and had my whole thyroid removed at age 17 and take daily medicine for it.  I'm considered Hypothyroid - slow or no thyroid.  I've been getting clusters since age 10.  I doubt if it's the cause of clusters.  [smiley=huh.gif]

Hoping you get a break from the clusters soon.

I take propranolol to treat the symptoms of the hyper thyroid.  Mostly its to slow down the shaking of the hyper thyroid.  When you have a hyper thyroid, one of the symptoms is to shake like you have parkinsons, propranolol helps to stop the shaking.
I originally thought that the shaking was a side effect of the verapimil.  One of the side effects of verapimil is to tremor, or shake.  So I stopped taking the verapimil cause i thought it was making me shake, then it turns out it was the thyroid anyway.

Thanks for the info on kudzu.  I do use trex and propanolol so i prolly wouldnt be advised to use that.
Thanks & PF wishes to all!

My wife found an article of two that attempt to link clusters to Thyroid problems.  I haven't paid much attention to them and will have to see if she still has links to em.  If I can retrieve anything I'll post it here.

Good luck on getting these under control.
