Title: Toprol XL
Post by toolong on Jun 12th, 2005, 12:38pm
Doc. changed meds again.Went from Inderal LA to Nadolol, both caused me to experience extreme fatigue. Now trying Toprol.I'm still using my Kudzu 2X a day.CH are a lot less frequent, chronic to less than 3 or 4 a week.Question is,is Kudzu safe to take along with a Beta Blocker?I didn't mention The Zu to my Doc.he doesn't like any alternative meds.Just don't want my heart to stop. Hi David! I really don't have an answer to your question. Maybe Flo or Ozzy will come along and help. I'm not sure there's any definite info on this anyway. Such are the perils of beta testing, I guess.  :-/  If I remember correctly, you suffer from high BP as well. The standard warning of not mixing kudzu with other BP lowering meds would probably not apply to folks like us.
Have the dr check out Flo's kudzu page where actions and mechanisms are covered. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.  :-[  hugs, nani

David, you SHOULD mention the zu to your doc!  You could be playing with fire here.
We're not doctors here.  At best, we're just really good researchers.
Herbs, any herbs, ALL herbs are very powerful and can be lethal if combined with the wrong thing.  Please tell your doctor what you're doing!
At the VERY least, type in your beta blocker name to this database and then type in kudzu and see if it brings up any warnings!

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!

Just an extra thought...if your current physician who treats your clusters is adamantly against any alternative therapies, do you have another physician who you could discuss it with?  Some docs are more open-minded than others, and it does help to have someone who at least considers alternatives and can advise you properly.  Also...maybe a pharmacist could shed some light on it?

The hematologist I saw flipped out about my taking Kudzu...said I was taking a weed in a pill.  (Well, that's not entirely INaccurate! haha)  But then, I've had other docs who were very enthusiastic about at least trying it - although we did discuss a few potential risks.

Take care and always be informed!

Carrie :)
