Title: Lamictal
Post by Lizzie2 on May 10th, 2005, 1:52pm
My next test as of my neuro appt today...  I'll start with 12.5mg daily and increase slowly from there.

So long as I avoid any kind of skin peeling off rash (no seriously, that likelihood is incredibly rare!), then the SE's don't sound TOO horrific. :)

Well let's see how giving this one a try goes!

Lizzie :)

What kind of rash?  Did it go away when you stopped the med?  Did it get so bad that you had to go to the ER or just an uncomfortable rash that went away over time?  There are basically 2 different types of rashes that can occur with this, from what my neuro told me today.

He started me on a low dose (even lower than the recommended starting dose) because I tend to have a lot of weird/bad reactions to meds.  I'm hoping the rash will stay away!

Did you take it in the morning or at bedtime?  I took it this afternoon after my appointment - but he didn't tell me what time of day to take it at.  That always happens, and I always forget to ask.  I have so many sleep issues, that I want to make sure that if it's going to make me tired - I take it at bedtime, or if it's going to cause insomnia - then I take it first thing in the morning!  I'll have to try looking it up some more!

He said he hasn't had a lot of success with it treating chronic daily migraine, and he's probably never used it for CH, but I'm a little limited on treatment options right now for a few reasons.  His first comment was, "Do you think you can just hang tight for a month?" (So then I'll be past my bilat knee surgery) - I said no I can't...which is true.  5-6 CH/night currently; I'm hardly sleeping; and the migraine is pretty out of control.

He said it takes about 4-6 weeks to notice any difference, so I'll try it for now.  We're still waiting for Lyrica (pregabalin) to come out in September...

Anyways thanks for the reply!  Nobody had replied here or on the migraine forum where I post, and I really wanted to hear some experiences - no matter what result a person had!

Take care,
Lizzie :)

I started Lamictal last week. My doctor told me in high doeses it can cause drowsiness. So he said take it at night. So far not rash for me. Let me know how your treatment goes. I am going in for the DHE IV on Monday. It will be my first. I have had a dull HA on the right side of my head for over a month now. But only one cluster. Yeah! I think it's remmission time. The summer is the best time of year for me.
