Title: Hey smart people!! I've got a question.... Post by Roxy on Apr 23rd, 2005, 1:53pm Most of you who have been around for awhile know the state of my head........meaning that absolutely nothing works for me. I did get about 5-6 days PF with the alternative treatment. Got 3 days with pred. Nothing else has worked. I am currently taking lith and verap, which has helped a little......but somedays it's 7-8 hits, others it is 3-4. I never, and I mean NEVER go a day PF. The last 4 days have been PF, except for a very, very small REM hit last night. It was so light that I thought I could maybe go back to sleep.....but I'm not that stupid and grabbed the 02 just in case. I racked my brain trying to figure out what I had been doing differently, and the only thing I could think of was that I had used Zomig NS for 4 days in a row. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how a triptan could cause this effect. Then I remembered that my pharmacy and I had a mix up concerning my lipitor. They and my insurance company said I had filled it....and I hadn't. This resulted in me not having taken it in about a week and a half. I've been on it steady (20mg daily) since before I have had clusters. Would it take a week and a half to get out of my system? Could the lipitor be keeping me so damn chronic that nothing works? Any bright ideas out there? Roxy 8) |

Title: Re: Hey smart people!! I've got a question.. Post by floridian on Apr 24th, 2005, 9:28am The statin drugs reduce production of CoQ10 in the body. CoQ10 supplements have been shown to reduce the frequency of migraines, and may have a similar effect on clusters, although it has not been studied yet. You are not the first person to suggest that statins might prolong a cycle. It could take two weeks or more for the body to restore CoQ10 levels after discontinuing statins. http://www.med-owl.com/clusterheadaches/tiki-index.php?page=CoQ10 http://www.med-owl.com/clusterheadaches/tiki-index.php?page=Statin+Drugs High cholesterol is a real risk factor for heart disease and should be dealt with. Adding a Coq10 supplement to a statin dose reduces many of the side effects without interfering with the benefits. Check the med-owl pages for more information and discuss the options with your doctor. |

Thanks floridian, but I've been taking a supplement of Coq10 for the last year, with no change in my head. I'm flying to New Orleans today to see a new neurologist tomorrow at Tulane Medical Center. Maybe if I just try a different statin, this will continue. Had two hits last night.......but that's PF for me. |
