Title: % Cured by Shrooms
Post by Low_Viz on Apr 23rd, 2005, 5:40am
Are there any stats on how many people have been helped by doing the cluster buster method? I am curious to see if helped only a few people or if it works for the majority that have tried it?

It looks like a good majority of folks who try this find significant relief.

Disclaimer: The evidence is all anecdotal - it’s based on reports posted on this and other message boards and on Internet-based surveys. This is NOT scientific, but it’s the best we got. And the exact percentages will depend somewhat on subjective judgements: what is significant relief?

My opinion:  about 80 percent of all cluster sufferers find relief with indole-ring hallucnogens (psilocybin, LSD, LSA).  Episodics have better luck: maybe 85 to 90 percent. Chronics come in about two-thirds, say 65 to 70 percent. Haven’t figured the numbers on this yet, but it seems a higher percentage of chronics (being more desperate) try the treatment than are in the general clusterhead population.

That’s just my opinion. Some think the percentages are higher. Some question the validity of voluntary reports, (as they should) and say some who did not find success might not report. I’m sure this has happened, but I also know some who have found relief and did not report it.

So for my official stand I will round it on down to be extra conservative: chronics 60 percent, episodics 80 percent, over all 75 percent.

long winded as usual,

Thanks for the info Tommy, I have read the various posts about this method for years but really didnt believe the results were that good. I thought it may just be an excuse to trip. I used shrooms and lsd a few times before my first episode when I was 20 or 21. I read with fascination the posts by Miapet about her husband who was chronic and decided to do a little more research about it.I have been episodic for 14 years and think I will give this a try. It would be absolutely fantastic if this really does work.

I just stopped by to remind you that there is no cure.

Treatment is ongoing.

Enough people have reported significant relief that I will consider this treatment if what works for me now ever fails.

Absolutely, positively NOT! If you read about the alternative treatment you will see it said over and over that the dose is very small. If you use enough to give yourself the giggles then you probably used way too much.
And IMHO, I think long winded tommyd is right.

Well...

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there, BobG.

While it is true that quite a few have achieved relief with very low doses it is also true that quite a few others have needed to take enough to make it unmistakable they have taken a psychedelic drug. That is a ways past the giggles stage but not at the Woodstock era stage either.

From the reports we have it appears there is no added benefit to getting so high that the universe disappears -- the fabled "Level 5" experience. For that matter it isn't even necessary to reach "Level 4". But if my memory serves me correctly, the largest group who have had success with this are those who aim for a solid "Level 2" experience. This is the stage at which mild visual distortions often appear (especially with eyes closed) and there is no denying that something kind of "weird" is going on. It's still a very long way from freak-out territory and for that matter still even a step below what the casual recreational user aims for (Level 3) but it is beyond the mere giggles stage.

Admittedly, as more and more people try the small dose method those numbers may tilt towards the "Level 1" experience as being sufficient -- it is only fairly recently that a significant number of experimenters have really given the small dose method a chance.

But it doesn't appear as if reaching "Level 2" has any downside to it and for many of our reporters doing less than that doesn't appear to help them much. I personally wouldn't label a "Level 2" experience as a "trip", though.

I'd say that anyone wishing to have a serious chance at this treatment working MUST be prepared to reach a "Level 2" experience -- maybe more than once. I will say there is an excellent chance that a series of "Level 1" doses will do the trick -- there are too many who have had success with that method for me to pooh-pooh it. The first-time experimenter may never need to go beyond that in order to get relief -- even complete relief.

But I don't want people who may have just needed to do a little bit more with each dose to get discouraged when the "Level 1" doses don't do the trick, then throw in the towel too early.

Don't get me wrong here... if "Level 1" doses are all it takes for you, stick with them -- no point doing more than you have to. But to dismiss the possibility of the need to reach a "Level 2" dose in some cases is -- I think -- at this point doing a disservice to those willing to give this a fair trial.

You're right pinky. My point was these threads on alternative treatment are not meant for those that only want an excuse or permission to trip out. There have been many people here over the years that only want this message board to enable them to continue their drug use.
Thank you to you and all the others for what you have done to bring us intelligent information on this treatment.
