Title: D.B.S. ( Deep Brain Stimulation ) - FOOD
Post by Bionic_Daddy on Apr 8th, 2005, 11:05am
Hello All,
I underwent the D.B.S. on 2-1-05 at UCLA Los Angeles to TRY to control my chronic beast. After two monthes of programing my beast is starting to fade. I have underwent Sterotatic surgery, laser radiation & tried tons of medications. My wife & I track every HA & diet on a daily basis. Results : HA free until I eat Steak, chicken, MSG, cheese or milk. Has anyone tracked their diet? I've tried hormone free meats with NO success. I'm interested to know if anyone else believes FOOD ( Additives, preservatives, protiens ) are a trigger to the BEAST? I have a notebook full of results & believe FOOD is my major trigger.

Welcome BD and sorry you're here. I have no food triggers, but some folks do. You've tried some really invasive treatments. Should the beast resist leaving you alone, may I suggest you have a look at the following threads. Many of us have gotten significant relief from it, but like anything else, it doesn't work for everyone. Good luck and pain free wishes, nani

I think diet may have an effect on some people.  See:

but, Flo...you're illustrating my point with that.  If there wasn't a seratonin imbalance in the first place, dietary influences wouldn't be a factor.  Right?  If they were, everyone would get cluster headaches.

your website is looking AWESOME, by the way. :)

I see what your getting at ... another example, lots of people have food allergies, but not everyone with food allergies gets migraines.  And there is a fair amount of work showing that food allergies can trigger migraines.  So the food problem is secondary, but can be valuable for some people.

Right on Flo ;)
Chocolate is a "food trigger" on me and I am also lactose intolerant which can cause migraine. I get triggered in ways beside food much more often. Sometimes it seems like the migraine will get blurred in with a strong shadow in between my hits. :-/. Blessings, Joe

In my case, some salty snacks trigger CH. This means, no chips, crisps, popcorn, nachos, etc. Luckily I'm not obsessed with any of them!  ;;D

I'm lactose intolerant, too. But I've never thought that it would have something to do with ch... I have regulars migraines, too, but not that often.

Hi Sandie,
Sorry to hear you also suffer from the BEAST! I believe food is my major trigger. I don't believe salt triggers my HA's ( Something I will try ), but most chips contain Monosodium Glutamate ( MSG ) my BIGGEST TRIGGER. I'm not a Doctor or medical professional, just a SUFFERER trying to find answers & solutions. My wife & I are testing different foods ( Yes, When I find a trigger I'm not happy ) , but I need to learn how to stay PAIN free. The best thing we have found is to track your diet & HA's, Steak, chicken, MSG & milk are my worst enemys. Good luck, I believe Food additives are a major trigger.

BD [smiley=huh.gif] have been doing something to replace the protein loss in your diet since you have found Steak, chicken, MSG & milk as triggers?

Hi BD, hope you are finding some relief...

Here is a good website that has examples of foods that you can supplement instead of meat and chicken, if you look at vegetarian diets you can find excellent alternates, good luck!!!
