Title: cyber knife
Post by tbp38 on Mar 21st, 2005, 12:16am
had cyber knife at stanford on feb 8, still on meds, very few headaches, and very mild, haven't had one in ten days, will go of meds soon, that will be the real test, will keep you posted, let me know if you have ????"s i'm afraid to say that it is working, but i think that it might it be. i am a chronic  'ch' , usually every night for the past 20 years, i have only had nine ha's since feb 8, only two were killers, the rest were very mild, took O2 and  they subsided. stanford has never done this before for CHA'S  , this procedure is usually confined to people with brain tumors and other maladys not related to headaches. hope this is the answer , let me know if you have questions, either through this site or email me  at brancyk@sbcglobal.net

Well of course we have questions, ya nit. I'm not sure what the "cyber knife" involved,  but it musta been more than extra sprinkles at the local Dairy Queen.

What _exactly_ did they do? (Or did I miss something?)

His name is RJ, not Dick. Is this surgery the same as gamma knife surgery?
PS you may want to take your phone number off and just send him a pM with it. Keeps the crazies off your phone line.

Taking one's own advice can be as productive as giving it.

Can attitudes be ajusted with a gamma knife?

Ok, the clues tell me Stanford doesn't have an on-site Dairy Queen.

By your update posts to the curiosity, my impression is "cyber knife" is some sort of online cut-up that seems to involve a dull knife.

warmer or colder?

Gamma knife surgery is real. There are threads on it. I'm still not sure if he's talking about the same thing.

Its real. A rather drastic treatment for chronics who do not respond to treatments involving medication.

The gamma knife is real enough.........it's the "cyber" knife reference with no other info that bugs the crap out of me.

Sort of like the post just entered by "easy" -

cure for me!and you?
« on: Today at 10:41pm »
I have found a cure after 15 years of suffering every January form 7:00pm to 3:00 am.

No wonder I'm going crazy.

the cyberknife is like the gamma knife, but different in some significant ways. they are both radiosurgical systems meaning they both use beams of radiation to create a lesion at a focal point. the cyberknife (made by accuray), like related systems (such as the novalis from brainlab, the xknife from radionics, etc.), is a linear accelerator ("LINAC"). these use high energy x-rays to make the lesion. the gamma knife uses gamma radiation. the important point is that the use of linac systems to treat craniofacial pain has hardly been studied at all. this is the first case of linac treatment for CH i've heard of, and there weren't any results i found in a pubmed search. even for a much more thoroughly studied craniofacial pain disease--trigeminal neuralgia--there is very little research.

it's hard to find unbiased info on this topic as it's seen as a "hot new technology," but www.irsa.org seems to be relatively fair and balanced.

The intent was never to piss off thb38 dude........it was a request for more info. It might have taken a couple months to get an answer, but thanks for your input, Andrew, on what this is. I still don't understand it, hope I never have to do it; thanks for the explanation.

Sure wish I was smarter. Not to mention the Memory thing....

Here is an e-mail exchange I had with Mr. Brancyk.  I had intended to post it sooner, but things got kind of crazy for me at the time and I forgot all about it until now.  CRS taking a major toll here.  Sorry everyone.

Okay, dude.  It has been 5 days since this post.  You left some very interested people hanging because of the misguided humor of one person.  Yes, he was trying to be funny.  That's his way.  At 56 years of age and having had CH every day for 20 years, you should have a lot thicker hide than this.  How about finishing what you started and give the people interested in what you have to say the information you said you'd give them?  Or if you truly do not wish to do so on the message board, how about filling me in and letting me relay it?  These people are sufferers just like you are.  Can you really turn your back on them so easily?
