Title: Toprol XL
Post by gumba7 on Jan 31st, 2005, 8:29pm
Due to development of Cardio Arterial Disease (arterial blockage) my cardiac Dr. prescribed TOPROL XL which is a beta blocker and CRESTOR (cholesterol lowering med).

Prior to this diagnosis I was taking Verapamil 180mg x 2 and Sansert (actually Deseril purchased from U.K) 1mg x 2. This treatment had completely eliminated chronic CH (daily kip scale 8's) for the prior 4 years.

In order to establish a baseline for efficacy of Toprol, I discontinued both Verapamil and Sansert (Deseril) for a one month period.

During that time...NO CLUSTERS.

Checked the internet for info on Toprol and guess what?
It is recommended for Migraine.

Stayed off the Verapamil/Sansert for three months and still no CH episodes.

Granted, this is not a double blind study...BUT...I suffered from daily CH's for three years before I discovered a treatment plan that worked and if this info can help a fellow victim of the beast then there are TWO more happy people in this world.

Curious if the Toprol XL is still helping - my spouse developed sporadic CH while ON Toprol (& other meds for CAD) - he rarely gets them any more, maybe due to taking max. dose of Excedrin for Migraine daily (for arthritic pain); he's 70 yo & still working full-time as an assembler.
