Title: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Jan 29th, 2005, 9:47pm I just got something from the DME people that is supposed to be my non-rebreather mask. But it doesnt seem to be working like I thought it would. Isnt the O2 supposed to go into a little bag, and then you breath it out of the bag, through a 1-way valve into the mask? Isnt there supposed to be a 1-way valve there to keep your exhale outta there? My mask also has holes in the sides for air movement...If air was supposed to be mixing with the O2, wouldnt the simple nose piece be ok? And when I hook up the O2 and turn it on, it doesnt fill up the bag at all, the O2 just escapes outta the mask cause there is no valve there or anything. Am I mistaken? What is wrong? Thanks and PF wishes BMonee |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by lionsound on Jan 29th, 2005, 10:29pm Those circular valves on the side are to let the air that you exhale go OUT. When you inhale they should close(the rubber circles will stick to the holes) Before you use the mask each time(not each breath) you need to fill up the bag by placing you fingers over the valve that's above the bag inside the mask. This closes the valve and inflates the bag so you can start to use it. When you breathe out it will close that valve and the bag will inflate again. The valve is circular maybe the size of a nickel. Hope this helps, Be well and PF, lionsound |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Jan 30th, 2005, 12:17am First, there is no nickel sized valve that is in the mask. I can look right through the hole. I have taken the bag off of the mask and there is no valve in the hole. and you say "the rubber circles will stick to the holes", I do not have any rubber circles on my mask. the holes are totally open and there is nothing there to block air passage. I dont think I got all the parts to this mask. BMonee |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by E-Double on Jan 30th, 2005, 12:35am does not appear so. I think that is called a partial rebreather mask but may be mistaken. You can tape the holes on the side up.....not sure what to do with the hole near the bag though I've used bandaids in the past... I personally would just breath from the hose until I can get the non-rebreather or.... buy your own.... http://www.sands.ca/airway/index.htm you can probably find other sites online to order them or go to your closest med supply store....only about $2.00 good luck! Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by E-Double on Jan 30th, 2005, 12:47am It will work just not near as well. Take it from the hose if you need. seriously! will not harm ya. I know this is a pain in the ass but it will bring relief too! just regulate manually in between breaths turn on and off to conserve...... Where do you live? Maybe there is someone (one of us) locally who can spot you one or PM me your address and I will see what I can do. Relax and try not to stress over this one.....at least you have the tank and a hose right? This will certainly bring down the level if O2 helps you. Take it light! E. |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by Magick on Jan 30th, 2005, 10:31am I have to tape up the holes in my mask as well and pull the mask away to exhale. I wonder if insted of a non-rebreather we should be using a HIGH CONCENTRATION O2 MASK. Anyone know what these are ??? [smiley=huh.gif] |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by mcf69 on Jan 30th, 2005, 2:39pm BMonee, Definately sounds like you got what is called a partial non-rebreather, you need a total non-rebreather. Check out this link: http://www2.mooremedical.com/index.cfm?PG=CTL&CS=HOM&FN=ProductDetail&PID=11275 At $1.59 apiece, it will probably be more for shipping that the actuall cost of the mask, but trust me, it's worth it. Just make sure you get one with the safety vents, or if you buy one without, take the elastic band off. Magick, I'm don't think you can get anything that will deliver a higher concentration of O2 other than a demnad valve mask, which are very expensive and can suck down a D or E sized cylinder in about 3-5 minutes. A larger cylinder may be more practical for use with one of those. If either of you have any questions, please IM me, I can provide some more links and sources for equipment. |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by NC2FLDiver on Jan 31st, 2005, 12:09am The best setup I have found is a scuba reg. But I just happen to have a few lying around. I have tried a non-rebreather mask but could not stand the thing touching my face. I put it on a 320cf bottle of o2 and it will last over a month. You can get that size bottle at any welders supply without a prescription. You if have any questions about setting something like this up PM me and I'll do my best to help. Jay |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Jan 31st, 2005, 10:40pm Thanks so much for your help. I have taken apart the mask and only use the bag. I breathe in through my mouth and out through my nose. 1 thing that I have noticed is that the bag is very small. I do have big lungs, but I can inhale WAY more then the bag holds. so when I am taking O2, I cant breathe deeply? I have to breathe pretty shallow and slowly. Is that normal? Thanks again and PF wishes! BMonee |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by Seiji on Feb 7th, 2005, 11:11am if you are breathing and the bag deflates you need to turn up the flow on your regulator. you can not tell me you can breathe in more than 15 liters in one breath |

Title: Re: Need O2 non-rebreather help STAT!!! Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Feb 7th, 2005, 10:09pm Hell yes, are you kidding me? I have the reg on at it's maximun - 15lpm, and I can easily take in 1 full bag of O2 in just a half a breath. I dont want to waste the O2, but the next time I need it, I will see if I can take in 2 or 3 bags full of air. That bag cant be 15 liters. It would take a full minute just to fill it up. My mask looks the same as the one pitures here on this site. It looks like the same thing. You saying that you can't take in 1 bag of air in 1 breath? PF wishes BMonee |
