Title: Nerve Injections?
Post by jillybean on Jan 27th, 2005, 10:29pm
Has anyone else tried to been advised to get nerve blocking injections at the base of the skull to relieve the pain?

A Pain Management doc (interventional anesthesiologist) was referred and this is what she is doing.

The swelling and soreness are painful, but the pain level has dropped to a 1-2 in an hr or less.

I'm worried it is quackish since I have seen no mention here...

Jill,

when I talked about all possibilities with my neuro, he said that his patients who have used them didn't get any relief so he didn't recommed them.

I am actually glad. The word "injection" is enough to scare the hell out of me... ;;D

Lots of PFdays,

Sandie

Jill,

There was most likely a numbing agent included in the syringe that will bring some quick relief but not last.

I received temporary relief for the occipital nerve block in the past.  I found supra-orbital and supra-trochlear nerve blocks to be more effective than the occipital nerve block.

Either way, they only provide short-term relief for me.  I did get a few weeks pf time in the orbital area after those blocks.

Ice the injection area as that will help alot, at least for me.

I hope you get some relief,
Renee

Hi Sandie and Renee,

Thanks for the feedback.

Boy, he is actually feeling really good today. The injection sites are sore and bruised.

I am discouraged that only a few days or weeks of pf time for you. I'm not telling him. This is his first pf day in 3 months. Maybe it will break the cycle for him. He needs to stay optimistic no matter what.

If it comes back, he doesn't need to waste the good feeling in anticipation.

pfdan to you.

Jill

I've received an Occipital Nerve block on 2 diff occasions.  The first time it did NOTHING.  The second time the doc did two in a row and it gave me 2-3 week break (not completely sure how long it was)

So what kind of injection was it?

I've had 6 bi-lateral Occipital nerve blocks. The first helped for 17 days ... the rest did nothing.

Unsolved

PS. Occipital nerve blocks have steriods mixed in there.
