Title: Away for 4 yrs but back Post by Try2help on Jan 14th, 2005, 7:10am I started suffering cluster headaches (episodic) in late 2000. I'm a 30 yr old male, don't smoke, good shape, and I do drink. I am posting here to share my experience with what helped me. I visited a doctor after 4 months of headaches at penn Medicine in radnor PA. She diagnosed cluster headaches and prescribed me a drug called fiorocet. She told me to take it for 30 days, i took it for 10 and the headaches vanished. For 4 years I have been headache free, until a few recent mild episodes, 4 headaches in 2 weeks. I am going to see the doctor again today for the first time in 4 yrs, i will let you know how i make out. Hopefully, this will help someone. ;) |

Title: Re: Away for 4 yrs but back Post by Try2help on Jan 14th, 2005, 7:13am I just did a quick search of the site for this drug and found no posts. I'm amazed since this med helped me so much. I'll post later today when I get back from the doc. |

Title: Re: Away for 4 yrs but back Post by E-Double on Jan 14th, 2005, 8:26am Thank you so much for your input and very glad that it helped you...... Fioricet is a barbiturate sedative (butalbital) mixed with aspirin and caffeine. This non-narcotic pain medication and relaxant is often prescribed for tension headaches caused by contractions of the muscles in the neck and shoulder area. Though sometimes perscribed to us (I was) it did nothing more than drinking coffee atleast for me with the one perk being rebound headaches.... That is why you probably didn't see much because most have found it useless. We are all different though. good luck! E x 2 |

Title: Re: Away for 4 yrs but back Post by Bob P on Jan 14th, 2005, 8:35am Gotta agree with Double. It was the first medication given to me when diagnosed 34 years ago. It did nothing. It's good for tension headaches but won't touch a cluster. That's why you don't find anything about it on the sight. 4 headaches in 2 weeks, I'd suspect something other than clsuters. |

Title: Re: Away for 4 yrs but back Post by dagger on Jan 15th, 2005, 6:28pm I was once prescribed something called fiorinal - sounds like it is in the same family, but it didn't help at all. dagger |

Title: Re: Away for 4 yrs but back Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jan 15th, 2005, 8:35pm I'd be willing to guess all of us have been given something simiilar in the past. Fact is, the ingredients in Fiorinal or Fioricet relax you somewhat, but they simply don't touch CH pain. They're very effective for tension HA's. Headaches of any kind are horrible - maybe you have a type of HA that responds well to this med, but I have my doubts that they're clusters. PFDAN to You, Kris |

I'd be curious to know what the basis of diagnosis was. Marc |
