Title: Re: neurantin? Post by nani on Dec 11th, 2004, 10:38am I use 1800mgs of Neurontin a day. I am also on verapamil and lithium as prevents. I like it as opposed to Topamax which has many side effects. It's a combo that keeps my hits on lower kips, but I still get hit everyday. (I'm chronic). I don't think Neurontin alone will do much. Good luck and pain free wishes to you. |

Title: Re: neurantin? Post by BobG on Dec 11th, 2004, 11:26am neurantin? neurontin? SP? I haven't Goggled it but isn't there some lawsuits going on about that stuff? |

Title: Re: neurantin? Post by nani on Dec 11th, 2004, 11:33am Yes there is a lawsuit. It's about it being pushed for off label uses. Like pain management. Most of the stuff we take for CH are. Lithium-bipolar illness. Topamax and Neurontin-seizure disorders. Verapamil-hypertension. My feeling is as long as it's working...who cares. The problem was drug reps pushing docs to try it for all kinds of stuff, including depression. The manufacturer probably wanted to renew the patent. It's now available as the generic gabapentin. |

Title: Re: neurantin? Post by 21yrs on Dec 11th, 2004, 12:40pm thanks nani the nero was pretty cool. asked me what i wanted. i have lived off the inj of trex since it came out. with me only dealing with the beast 2-3 months out of the year i really never looked any further. is this drug going to break the cycle asap? you still get hits everyday so does it work? i know the pred took care of the hits for me in mid sept. i told her i didnt want that because i put on 20 pounds before i was done with the taper. getting the script today, let you know how it works. pf days for everyone thanks again 21 |

Title: Re: neurantin? Post by nani on Dec 11th, 2004, 1:54pm I took the neurontin for 4 years by itself and it didn't really work that well. Since I've added the lith and verap it keeps my hit lower on the kip scale. I generally get hit with kip 4-6's. I have "episodes" with much higher kips now and then, too. I'm a chronic, so I don't really know if this is a whole lot better than using nothing. I really think that you have to add at least verap to help break the cycle. I've never tried pred-I'm afraid of the steroids. I can't take Imitrex or any other triptans because of high BP and heart issues. This is probably the best I can expect. :-/ I am presently trying Indomethacin to rule out CPH for the dozens of k2-4 "shadows" I get everyday. I've just learned that most chronics don't get hit as often as I do. :-/ It's all just a big experiment...finding out what works for each of us. |

I took Neurontin (not for CH's) for about 9 months and I started reading some pretty nasty things about it so I got off of it. IMO there are better/safer ways to deal with the beast. Here's some info on the lawsuit Bob was talking about. http://www.adrugrecall.com/neurontin/lawsuit.html Jim |

Title: Re: neurantin? Post by 21yrs on Dec 11th, 2004, 7:30pm jdh thanks for the link. a lot of good info especially the part on side effects "suicidal tendencies" i think my nero needs to look a little closer to the drugs she prescribes. nani you be careful with that stuff!!! if it don't work get off it!!! when them 10kip'ers come i don,t need a little push. i think i am going to leave that script at the store. going to try the BUSTER route thanks again 21 |

Thanks sweetie, but I happen to be a fan. It is far more benign than many other CH drugs. I first used it after brain surgery...it's safe for me. |
