Title: HOPE I'M THE ONLY-ONE TO TRY THIS Post by survivor13 on Nov 17th, 2004, 4:18pm in the early 90's. a co-worker brought me a alternative medicine book to work. it was about a study done in italy on a chemical called capscian (spelling may be wrong) that is found in cayenne pepper. with a group of men and women clusterheads. they claimed 80 % success. they made a nasal solution with it. the book did not know the actual recipe and went under the assumption that it was probally water and cayenne pepper (see where this is going). yes, for two weeks, three times a day i inserted cayenne pepper nasal spray in my nose. everytime it set my head on fire for 15 mins., nose ran and teared up for about an hour. DID'NT WORK! my co-workers and family still talk and laugh about this. at that time i probally would have tried anything that someone said would work. |

Title: Re: HOPE I'M THE ONLY-ONE TO TRY THIS Post by eyes_afire on Nov 17th, 2004, 6:42pm Well, I put Cholula pepper sauce up my nose once. When in the midst of a CH, ya can't really 'add much more pain'. Didn't work, but my nose wasn't really in pain compared to CH. Desperation is ugly. --- Steve |

Title: Re: HOPE I'M THE ONLY-ONE TO TRY THIS Post by catlind on Nov 17th, 2004, 9:07pm There was a clinical trial done on this, it was called civamide. The results seemed to show that it worked more on a preventative action than an abortive action, and the results weren't spectacular. Cat |

Title: Re: HOPE I'M THE ONLY-ONE TO TRY THIS Post by Sylvan on Nov 17th, 2004, 11:01pm Thank you for posting this information! I had been reading up on that Italian study and was actually considering trying it - until i read the rest of the ingredients on the cayenne ointment at my local holistic store. All kinds of things (in addition to the cayenne) that i was very hesitant to stick up my nose. I for one am convinced that this is NOT an option i will try! Sylvan |

Keep thee and thy store away from me. A pox on thee. I believe not in holistic stores nor snake oil remedies. The entire pepper/nose thing gave what......<50% results, after 2-3 weeks of nose-mace as a preventative? Let's not even count the placebo victims. Math is not my strong point. That's just me, tho.... RJ |

Title: Re: HOPE I'M THE ONLY-ONE TO TRY THIS Post by catlind on Nov 18th, 2004, 2:31am hehe fear not you aren't alone. I don't know if there's much in the way of holistic/alternative treatment options most haven't at least considered if not actually tried. Personally I used the capasaicin cream and rubbed it on my temple and in my nose. BAD BAD BAD. ;) Cat |

Title: Re: HOPE I'M THE ONLY-ONE TO TRY THIS Post by bocephus on Nov 19th, 2004, 3:12pm Don't feel bad. As a teenager I tried some of that new age herbal crap also. I rubbed peppermint oil on my forehead, clove oil on my nose and gums, and several other suggested herbal treatments to no avail. |

Title: Re: HOPE I'M THE ONLY-ONE TO TRY THIS Post by taraann on Nov 22nd, 2004, 3:23pm I put cayenne pepper up my nose also...then took it a silly step further by standing on my head (back against the wall) to make sure it went up nice and far. OH how silly I looked then I couldn't get down. Here I am crying from the Ch and laughing at myself (first and only time I laughed during a cluster) at the same time and yelling for Sam to help me down, while he is in the process of cracking up at me! So you are not the only stupid one......I'd have to say I looked much much more stupid. [smiley=crackup.gif] |

Title: Re: HOPE I'M THE ONLY-ONE TO TRY THIS Post by vig on Nov 26th, 2004, 8:20pm once more... with feeling... The attack had just started... my eye was beginning to tear up and get wet... I started rubbing my eye with the palm of my hand whiCH I had forgotten to wash after cooking with Jalapenos. I got the oil in my eye. Instead of burning, I had a warm and fuzzy sensation. I could feel the oil surrounding the eye and moving back down the nerve path. Soothing it. The pain stopped in a couple of minutes. Capsaicin is an analgesic. But it doesn't go up your nose. I've repeated this a few times since and it DOES work. But it doesn't work all the time and it's risky. My eye has to be VERY teary, probably to dilute the oil properly, otherwise, it WILL burn. Be careful |
