Title: Diet? Post by fullhead on Nov 10th, 2004, 11:32am In previous cycles I was informed that diet could adversely (or favorably) affect us. One lady recently informed me that yeast had caused her headaches and so her Dr. prescribed diflucan (100 mgs a day). She warned that You may get a few looks when you request it, as it's used to treat yeast infections in women! I had been told that chocolates, caffeine, and any pork would provoke the demons. Does anyone know if this is true and if there is a list of what not to eat or drink (I know alcohol is out!) |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by DerbyDemon on Nov 10th, 2004, 11:40am In cycle/out of cycle, food has never made a difference in my headaches. When i'm out of cycle it doesn't matter how much I drink. In cycle, I'm into my third or fourth drink and I get a CH. Other than that, they come and go as they please. As far as your yeast is concerned, I ain't no "girly man." |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by LeLimey on Nov 10th, 2004, 12:46pm I haven't noticed that anything particularly affects me but I have heard others saying that alcohol etc will trigger a HA for them. My husband gets migraines and chocolate is a big trigger for him. If you htink something might be affecting you then maybe keep a food diary alongside a HA diary and test it. I know yeast can cause all sorts of unpleasant reactions so its a possibility. Caffiene actually aborted one for me after reading a tip about it on here! I'm just gutted we can't get mountain dew here any more. The thing with CH is the more I read the more I read you can't generalise.. if ever there was a designer HA this is it as we all have variations on the theme however slight. Good luck with finding yours!! Helen |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by BobG on Nov 10th, 2004, 2:38pm Pork? More than likely it may be nitrates or nitrites added to the meat. Chocolate? For me, nope. Thank God. Coffee? Many use it as an abortive. |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by sandie99 on Nov 10th, 2004, 3:11pm Well, I stopped drinking alltogether since I got CH. And these days I east healthily. It has made all the difference to me in general, but CH does what it wants, unfourtainly. 8) Best wishes & PFdays, sandie99 |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by floridian on Nov 10th, 2004, 4:17pm Even with migraine, which is better studied than CH, there is a lot of individual variation in what foods are triggers, and what diet may be beneficial. In clusters, there is essentially no research on this topic, and no agreement. |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by majic on Nov 10th, 2004, 4:42pm Same here...I've tried excluding all sorts of foodstuffs over the years and nothing apart from alcohol seems to make any difference. A strong cup of coffee could sometimes abort an attack but even that wasn't terribly reliable...and not much use in the middle of the night if I wanted to go back to sleep afterward. majic |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by Connie on Nov 10th, 2004, 7:48pm My hubby's has given up: Cheese (that means no more macaroni) chocolet Good & Plenty (the pink ones only) cold cuts sausage anything with Red coloring pineapples and of course Alchohol (that we know for sure) He read these can all be triggers. Maybe, but I'll be dammed, he is still getting hit. |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by nani on Nov 11th, 2004, 9:40am My guess is that each CH sufferer has different triggers. Some people are not even triggered by alcohol, though it seems most CHers are. It's a good idea to keep a food and headache diary to see if you notice a trend. |

Title: Re: Diet? Post by fullhead on Nov 12th, 2004, 9:20am Thanks for everyone’s input! I had found coffee (caffeine) to be a big enemy before (I know, all my migraine acquaintances were surprised too.) But after noticing everyone’s comments, I decided to try some in this cycle. To my pleasure (Oh, for a hot cup on a cold day!), I've discovered that they haven't brought any on, at least not immediately. Wife thinks maybe it would incite other headaches (due to what we'd thought before). On the pork - ham, to be precise. For some reason it brought them on in previous cycles. I’d also read that chocolate was taboo, but went to the new Russell Stover’s in town and helped myself to their free samples with no attacks. The list idea was a good one - thanks! |
