Title: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by angel-ache on Oct 20th, 2004, 8:41pm I just had a horrific CH this morning. It stated at 6:20am, and lasted until 8:15am. I have never a CH that strong before. I was screamin, rocking, and kicking in pain on the bathroom floor. I vomitted twice, about 40 min after I took Indo, and then 15 min after that. It is now 3:30pm and I have had a constant ache in that tender spot where I had the headache this morning. It had been there all day. I took another Indo at 1pm, hoping the anti-inflamitory would help ease the soreness in my head. No such luck yet. What can I do to control the soreness. Doea anyone else feel sore after a doozie of a CH? It has been 7 hours since my CH and I don't think there is any end in sight for the pain to go away. It's as if I am being shadowed this whole time by the beast. I am drinking a single shot vanilla latte right now, and I am finding that the soreness is lifting slightly. Like a soothing relaxation coming over me. I am having a hard time concentrating. Help please... Angela |

I know when the pain gets unbearable he vomits. If he maxes (is that a word) out on his imtrex, it just has to run its course. The O2 has be a god sent this cylce. I hope you have a painfree night. Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by lionsound on Oct 20th, 2004, 9:28pm Angel-ache, I'm so sorry..that sounds awful. Maybe that indocin never got into your system. or maybe one pill wasn't enough(ask your doc). The pain lingers for me sometimes too. And sometimes we do refer to it as a shadow. Bag of ice or frozen bag of peas( or other favorite veggie)on my head and neck sometimes helps or taking a hot shower then running cold water on my head. (I'm really clean) or if it's cold enough-you're in Alaska?- getting myself outside helps too. be well, lionsound |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by BlueMeanie on Oct 20th, 2004, 9:29pm Hi Angela, Sorry to hear you had such a hard time today. When i'm out of meds and go through what you did, I take a Norgesic Forte. It helps keep the sorness down some after an attack. It makes me kinda tired though; and if you don't eat, it will upset your stomach. It is a strong muscle relaxer with caffeine that requires a prescription. What do you use to abort your Clusters ? Imitrex, Amerge, 02 ? Do you use prevents ? |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by nani on Oct 20th, 2004, 10:17pm Sometimes, after a high kip HA, the soreness and sensitivity around my eye, temple and cheekbone are almost like another kind of headache. My shadows are mild clusters, but the soreness is a different kind of pain. :-/ |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by angel-ache on Oct 20th, 2004, 11:37pm Oh Thank You Everybody!! Finding this site has been the best thing to ever happen. It is definately cold enough outside to try and relieve the 'ache', I will try that. Just need to bundle up a bit...Thnx Lionsound. Sad, but true, I just found out that I suffer from CH's last week. And I have been having episodes since I was 14, that is 13 years now. For an abortive I have tried imitrex the pill (half the time I puke it up, things are so darn expensive to come back up in a toliet!), and today, I just asked my doctor to have a standing order for O2 ready for me when I emitt (sp) myself into the ER after clinic hours. Monday morning I flew out of the house to the ER (so I could get O2 as soon as I could), but the nurses wouldn't let me have O2, and told me to go wait in the clinic till it opens at 8am, which was another 20 minutes. I tried to explain what was about to happen to me...they had no idea what they could have prevented. They found out soon enough. :'( I had a doozie right there in the clinic. Vig mentioned that a good spicey meal was a good thing to try when 'aching'. Thnx vig. Angela |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by jmorgan52 on Oct 21st, 2004, 8:59am Hi Angel I usually ache in the area behind my right eye/temple for many hours or even all day after a CH if I "tough it out" or use painkillers to try and abort. I tried imigran pills at first and also puked them up sometimes. As you say, an annoying and expensive puke. I even thought about fishing them out one time as they had not yet dissolved! Sometimes the pills gave relief after an hour or so if I took them at the very first sign of an attack coming, at that sort of "feeling" we get when we know one is coming. I then tried the nasal spray. This might as well have been air feshener for all the effect it had! After trying to avoid it for ages (2 years of cycles), I finally switched to the injection. What a difference! The injection leave me clear headed in about 10 mins and without the annoying but bearable "after pain" to contend with. I hate the high cost of teh injections (I pay 100% myself), the difficulty in getting them prescribed in large enough quantities and the risk factor. But when I am in cycle they are my best friend until I can break the cycle. John |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by Valerie on Oct 21st, 2004, 9:15am Hi Angel!! At the peak of my cycle when I get hit with k-9's a lot, I get that sore feeling - it's almost like a migraine between cluster attacks (aren't we lucky :)). It often last the whole day. I have used Imitrex nasal spray and it worked about 50% of the time - problem is, when it didn't work you wasted it, and you can't take another for a while. This cycle I tried Zomig fast dissolving tablets - they have been a godsend for me. As soon as I feel the ha coming on I take it and within 5 minutes it's completely gone AND I don't have that migraine, sore feeling either. At least now you know what you have, and you have us to help you thru it - hang in there sweetie :) Valerie |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by JeffB on Oct 21st, 2004, 11:58am Sorry for your pain! I'm in the middle of a cycle myself and am trying to get my new Dr's to get me on the indo and verap regimen that I was once on 5 years ago(the last time I had these damn things). Since the beast has returned I've been given imitrex and thats it, the Dr's I have now really don't understand what it's like to have these things and trying to convince them has become a challenge in itself. After my killer h/a 's have gone I have been left with a very sore and long lasting ache and feel very tender so I know how you feel. Since the shadows are not half as bad as the clusters I've stayed away from using the trex and have found that a motrin sometimes help. |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by kcorrigan on Oct 21st, 2004, 2:11pm I've been on my Pred and Indo since yesterday. So far, no good. I know not to expect too much, but I'm getting them the same that you are. I finally passed out after the pain dimished. These damn things are so exhausting. I, too, have ongoing pain in my head even after the attack has subsided. It just feels bruised for lack of a better word. Like if you ever smacked your head on something and you just don't feel right for a few days, except mine just doesn't go away. Try explaining that to people who don't get these. My whole family feels so helpless right now, especially since we know more about CH. Angela, good luck with yours. Hopefully your cycle keeps to a minimum and you don't suffer for too long. The frozen veggies are the bomb!! I have either frozen corn or peas in my freezer at all times just for my head. Big letters "DO NOT EAT THESE" written across the bag, lol. My amazing hubbie knows better after having to deal with me and my torture for close to 6 years. Anyway, you can tell I'm feeling a little better from the way I keep blathering on. Gotta run and get something accomplished today, lol. Later, |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by Gator on Oct 21st, 2004, 2:24pm Hi Angel, I haven't talked (typed, LOL) to you before. Welcome to the website. Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. Here is a link to some non-prescription alternatives different people have used to help with the pain: http://www.clusterheadaches.org/resources/non_script_treat.htm If you are currently taking medications, I would suggest you talk with your doctor before taking any of the nutritional supplements. At the very least check for interactions at a website such as: http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/Home/AllAboutDrugs Nutritional supplements can interact with prescription meds just the same as some prescription meds interact with each other. Better safe than sorry where your health is concerned. For most people with CH indo/indocin/indomethacin does not work. For Paroxysmal Hemicranias it is almost 100% effective. Either way, it's not something generally used as an abortive. It is usually prescribed as a preventative, taken several times a day and has to build in your system. Pills take too long to work as an abortive for CH, with the exception of the quick dissolve tabs, like Zomig. Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor. It describes preventative, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. http://www.future-drugs.com/admin/articlefile/ERN020304.pdf Oxygen is an excellent abortive. Works for most people when used properly. Have you tried getting it prescribed for home use? As well as it works, I have a hard time understanding why more doctors do not prescribe it. If you and your doc have discovered that O2 works for you and there is no health reason why the doc won't prescribe it and you cannot get the doc or insurance to authorize it for in home use, you might try welder's O2. It's the same pure oxygen used by medical suppliers. Many people here use it and would be more than happy to help you set it up. Here is a link that tells about using O2 and shows a setup using welder's O2. http://www.maplefallswebdesign.com/misc/oxygen/oxygen.htm I'll close this novel now. Again, welcome to CH.com. I'm sorry you have a reason to be here, but there's no better place in the world for info and support. Gator |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by Tom K on Oct 21st, 2004, 8:11pm Hi Angela, sorry you had to find us, because that means you're in the same boat that we are, but am glad you did so we can help you through the tough times. I did Indo for a while, back about 15 years ago. If I didn't take it with food, I puked, each and every time. I think the only thing it did was put me to sleep, puke or not. I have to agree, sometimes after a K8 or higher, my head aches pretty good for a few hours. Don't know what the deal is but if I hit a few Advil, seems to take the edge off. Hope you get some relief soon! Talk to your doc about Trex and O2, like everyone has said before. Welcome home! T |

Title: Re: pain after a kip 8-10 Post by angel-ache on Oct 23rd, 2004, 6:07pm Thank you for all your support. I think I might be in thick of them now. I can't believe how much pain I feel from the back of my eye, sinus/nose, ear ache, and my back teeth. I am a puker, only when I calm down, I seem to do better when I am rocking and screaming. I just had another doozie this morn. It whapped me from my sleep at about 5:55am. I sat up, paused, jumped up and dressed in a moment. Left my better half still in the bed, and drove myself to the ER. (I live in a very small town) Took about 2 minutes to get there, but it was really too late for O2, we tried w/out success. I had a bad CH there in the ER. I feel bad for the nuse, they couldn't do much, except change the cold washcloth on the back of my neck. I am aching all over again. |
