Title: meds for clusters but taking BP meds too
Post by shoedog111 on Oct 15th, 2004, 2:45pm
Anyone taking blood pressure medications and also taking meds specifically for cluster headaches too? I have not been prescribed any cluster meds as my neurologist thinks it will clash with my blood pressure meds. Anyone with any knowledge on the subjects.
I NEED RELIEF!!!

thanks

You should still be able to try lithium, and some different antiseizure meds like neurontin or topamax or depakote or tegretol or some antidepressents like elavil, celexa, or effexor etc.  You still have plenty of options to try.  I would suggest these to start with to your dr and if he wont listen find a new dr.  Good luck!  I modified this post to add predisone.  A lot of people get good breaks and stop cycles with this medicine.

Hi,

I also have hypertension, which happened to be discovered when I had my second or third cluster cycle.  My primary med is Enalapril (a beta-blocker).  Verapamil has worked well for me because I'm one of those that needs a multi-med approach to control B/P.  Even with Verap at 480mg/day, my pressure has been fine.

In fact, I'm in the process of weaning off it now and my doc is pretty sure I'm going to need a different med in its place.  Bless his heart ... he hasn't yet restricted the triptans during cycle.  Don't think I could live through one without my Statdose injects.

Kris
