Title: New to all this
Post by Guido on Oct 4th, 2004, 1:08pm
This is my second episode
My first was a couple years ago. I had no insurance so I just took the pain for a few months and it went away. I has no idea what I was doing as far as meds nor did I know what was going on with my head. All I really knew was " much more of this and I might as well jump off a bridge".
Now they have begun again. This time I have been led to you all and this site. I  now have insurance as well. I took my pain to the doc and he has given me Maxalt ( which seems to do nothing and one can only take it 4 times a month). Amitriptyline, 20mg before I go to bed. I feel now after reaching HC.com that my doc isn't on the same page.
When I first went to the doc I was having ha 4-5 times a week around 2am or so. Now I am at 1-3 attacks daily, and of course at my wits end. Now Iam at that point where I spend my day focusing my attentions on the "shadows" as you call them. I liken it to the grade school days when I was afraid of this one bully. Difference here is I finally had my day with him and ended up kicking his ass much to my surprise and delight. I can't seem to kick this headaches ass.
My fear is the doc is not thinking "cluster" and I have all the wrong meds. I would like some feed back please.
Thanks to you all for this site and being there. The strangest things bring people  together.
Guido

Sounds like your doctor thinks you have migraines.   These are not the usual first choice drugs for CH.  I was actually prescribed the same exact medly by my previous doctor.   When I returned he asked "How are your migraines?"  I educated him a little about CH, but basically had to pick out my own medications and bring scientific articles to support my choices.  Try to educate him or find a new doctor.  Either way you should probably get to a neurologist.
