Long Trip for Psychedelic Drugs
By Kristen Philipkoski

Story location: http://www.wired.com/news/medtech/0,1286,65025,00.html

Psychedelic drugs are inching their way slowly but surely toward prescription status in the United States, thanks to a group of persistent scientists who believe drugs like ecstasy and psilocybin can help people with terminal cancer, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, to name a just a few.

...

Halpern is also working with Bob Wold, a 51-year-old construction firm owner who suffered from debilitating cluster headaches, which are rare but brutal, until four years ago when he tried psilocybin to treat them. Wold had never used psychedelic drugs recreationally, and he was concerned and skeptical about using an illegal substance. But he was in the midst of choosing between three surgeries for his cluster headaches, each of which would have cost about $35,000. One involved a gamma knife to cut into his brain; the other two required holes drilled in his skull. Given those options, psilocybin didn't seem so radical.

Yes, excellent report. For those who have yet to read it, this last paragraph may be pertinent:
Quote:
"I'm very optimistic for the future," Grob [Harbor-UCLA Medical Center] said. "I think these compounds have tremendous untapped potential to be utilized within medicine and psychology. I think they need to be demystified, and safety parameters need to be established and studied. But with good controls, I think they can be used safely and effectively."

All the best with it.

Thanks for the story.

Watching this administration bust cancer patients using medical marijuana and denying the possibility that marijuana has ANY medical use has me skeptical.  I doubt that we will ever see prescription "shrooms."  I guess shrooms aren't a multi-billion dollar industry though.  Maybe the DEA wouldn't put up such a nasty fight.  Lets hope so, they work wonders for CH and many would benefit if they could be prescribed.

The irony lies in the fact that although marijuana is a schedule 1 drug classified as having no therapeutic qualities, there were 12 people, now 7 people remaining in the US thaqt have for the past 22 yrs recieved marijuana by prescription, provided by the federal government grown at the University of Mississippi. How fucked up is that?

I bet it's some good shit too. The government makes the best drugs!

The holy grail of LSD was LSD25 made by Sandoz labratories for the government.
The best extacy was made by the government. The shit that marriage counselors used for their unhappy patients. 1 pill a piece and a weekend in the woods saved many a marriage! I gave up party drugs quite a while back, but I can't say I wouldn't be tempted by some of Uncle Sam's extacy! :o

We just want to thank Flash for being brave enough to share what he had learned, and also all of the brave CH sufferers who tried Flash's 'theory' and proved that it worked for others.  Without Flash, and the senior 'busters', I know our lives would not have taken such a radical change for the better.  We are forever in your debt.
Clusterbusters ROCK!!!
