Title: I need Med advice quickly
Post by davebrick on Sep 3rd, 2004, 11:32am
Hi all

I am going through a cluster right now and I didn't expect them to hit for another month.

Before they hit I was going to come back to this site and do some research on what other people use to combat these cluster headaches, unfortunatley I have run out of time and they are here now. (right this minute) so if my spelling is off that is the reason, I can barely look at my monitor.

So on that note I have to go and see my doctor this morning and I was wondering what is the most popular med that other people are taking for these clusters ??????????

Any advice would be greatly appreiciated .

Dave

Hi Dave,

I've been a "Monster" sufferer for 30 years and just recently (6 yrs ago) found a doctor who really knew what I was talking about.

I was in the first phase of the cluster and was treated with a large dose of Predisone.  I was prescribed 12 tablets to be taken together followed the next day by 10 tablets, followed the next day by 8 tablets and so on.  I was thrilled to discover that the cluster was broken and the "Monster" did not return again for 2 years.

When it returned 2 yrs later, I did the same treatment with the same results.

It may be difficult to get a doctor to treat the "Monster" in the manner, but try your best.  Over 30 years of various treatments, this was the absolute best solution.

Good Luck to you and you have my heart felt sympathy.

I have had mixed results with prednisone.

Sometimes it will break a cycle, other times it just delays it.  It seems to matter where in my cycle I take the pred.  Usuall I take it early while ramping up the verapamil.

Preventatives: prednisone taper, verapamil.

1st lline abort:O2
2nd line abort: Imitrex NS or injections

Hope your feeling better soon

Hi Dave,

Realize I didn't make your doc deadline, but encourage you to print this out and take it to your doc.   It certainly has helped both me and my doctor.
