Title: Ice age
Post by IronHorse on Aug 11th, 2004, 12:41am
25 years of CH's and for the last 24, it is usually  one a day, However,  ( once or twice a week) I am getting 4-5 day  - I am thinking they are rebounds, but not sure.

Anyway, last week- made an ER trip-- tried reglan, DHE, and finally morphine. This is because I exceeded the 12 mg of 'Trex. I tried the 1/3 dose extension, but am not convinced personallly of the effeectiveness.

Today- Dr said go to the ER- (maxed out on Trex) and I havne't had much luck with the ER so I decided to ride it out. Only other Med is Verapimil 240mg/day.

My wife asked me if I wanted to use an ice bag----------I really didn't care- because I was in the bitch slapping contest with the beast ( an losing of course, but I tried it. I laid the ice bag on the pillow-  and gingerly laid my head top of it- focusing on the neck and right side.....   after about 5 minutes, I passed  out. I dont know if this was a fluke, but since the relief come from vascular constriction, I thought what the heck. I imagine I will have the opportuinity to try it again. I will let everyone know.

Does anyone know the dosage for Imitrex nasal? Is is compariable to the injections?

I think the ice is a comfort/distraction thing too. I have this medical gell thing I keep ready in the freezer. Any sensation besides the pain feels good. Even biting cold. I use it lot 'cause my head feels hot. I've also been known to get in an ice cold shower, go outside in the middle of the night in the dead of winter(Maine), or jump in the drink(lake) near my house. frozen OJ or bag of frozen veggies also works rather nicely.

Thanks dear,

My best friend told me a guarantee cure from the pain:  hold my head under water for 20 minutes.

I am sure glad I have such good friends.<grin>

Seriously, Best of luck to you and thanks for the reply.

Hi Ironhorse

My Imigran nasal is 20mg. Seems like a bit of overkill to me, but it works!

As far as the Imitrex spray goes, I think it's 2x24, same as the injects. You need to hear from someone else though, as I'm really guessing. I know the sprays are 20mg, whereas the injects are only 6mg. Not sure how much of that 20mg is disseminated into the body, though. I hardly ever use the sprays myself, as they take too long.

I do use the ice pack a lot. I use it when I start shadowing and feel that it actually aborts some hits before they happen. I also use it in conjunction with an inject while waiting on the trex to kick in. I'm convinced it really helps!

Iron Horse,

Ice is the only thing left that works for me.  Of course I have CPH.  Whenever I'm getting hit hard, I go for the Ice.  It's my new best friend.

Cheers,
Juvy

I have found some relief putting ice packs on my neck. Also sticking my feet in nearly unbearable hot water. Maybe it's all a distraction tactic, but it calms me down and dulls the pain a bit.
