Title: Lithium & Ergotomine Woo-Hoo!! Post by Stirr on Aug 4th, 2004, 9:13am Been on the pain train since early May. Last night the 1st without a headache....not even a hint of one. Been using all the usual groceries: predn., oxygen, imitrex, varapamil, herbs. The Combo of Lithium and Cafergot worked great!! Got my fingers crossed it's the "Real Deal". Will let you know if I get three days headache free. I'm 54. Had these since I was 26. What a drag! |

Any of the "ergots" (ergotamine, cafergot) has the potential to cause gangrene in the extremities. That ain't pretty. Natural ergots (i.e. shrooms) don't have that nasty little side effect. |

Title: Re: Lithium & Ergotomine Woo-Hoo!! Post by miapet on Aug 4th, 2004, 11:30pm marfanoidus, Margi is right on the money . . . the ergots can have a nasty side-effect . . . too little blood to extremeties means they aren't getting the oxygen rich blood they need . . .so they 'die' . . . there are people here who have great luck with the ergots . . . for D, the 'safe' amount wasn't enough (I know, there are those who take more than that), and it wasn't worth the risk to us . . . 15 or 20 years ago, he was a guinea pig for the docs, and took a lot of different meds (as Stirr said: groceries *G*) . . .as a result, he know has high bp . . . the chance of damage to any of his 'digits' was a chance he didn't want to take . . .especially since it wasn't effective at the 'safe' limit. In a nutshell . . .I worry about y'all and both the short and long term effects of the traditional drugs. *positive light and energy* miapet |

Title: Re: Lithium & Ergotomine Woo-Hoo!! Post by matthe on Aug 11th, 2004, 3:26pm Just got put on Lithium. Using it as a preventative - 2x per day. Using IMITREX and a O2 as stoppers. So far so good. The last three nights are the most sleep I have had in three weeks. My point is I have used ergotamine in several forms and IMITREX. I believe they both work as stoppers if you have any concerns with the erogotamine. You can't use the ergotamine and Imitrex within a 24 hour period of each other. Good Luck. |
