Title: Norvasc
Post by chasity on Jul 11th, 2004, 9:53pm
I suffered with clusters for 12 years and they got more intense every year. My last cluster was in dec 2003.  My boyfriend spoke with a lady whom had severe migraines and she suggested Norvasc.  Seeing as I was willing to try anything,  I did.  I have now gone without anything more than a twinge in 7 months.  My doctor told me that it would not kill the headache but it would make them less intense.  So far so good .  Nothing more than a twinge.  At first I was scared that it would soon turn into another bad one, but it has worked for me.  Hopefully this tidbit can help someone else.

Norvasc is sort of related to Veraprimil but its a little bit different. Both are antianginal and antihypertensives  and pharmacologically classified as "calcium channel blockers". I think that most people on the board are taking Verap but I may be mistaken.  Its very popular and effective as a "preventative" CH drug.

I was taking norvasc (with diovan) for years for HBP...then I went into my current CH cycle.  Just another medication compromise due to unemployment/lack of funds.  :(

If I ever get work again and have the cash flow I'll probably look into a HBP med that might also help the CH's...but for me I'm pretty sure that norvasc is not it.

Welcome - glad you've found some relief and are painfree.

Calcium channel blockers have been found to be quite successful as preventatives in some cluster sufferers.  Those of us who are hypertensive get an added benefit.

Keep us informed about your progress - Hugs,

Kris

I use norvasc as well, primarily for coronary artery spasms.  Since my BP is low everytime we try to increase the dosage I suffer from too low of a BP but it has helped with the intensity when I combine it with other preventatives.

What dosage are you taking?
