I have tried chiropractors with NO luck and I have been alergy tested with NO known allergies.  So your cure doesn't work for everyone.  I can't even take tegretol and depakote because I am allergic to both of them.  They are not common meds to take for ch either.  Glad you found something that worked for you tho.

I highly doubt it was the chiropractic that ended your cycle.  I'd say it's the "candida" diet that had a bigger effect.  Did he let you have any dairy products or bread (yeast)?  I'm betting he didn't.  I think there's a lot to the candida theory and the "die-off" that you mention is classic candida scenario.
I don't believe that candida overgrowth causes clusters, but I do believe that it sure doesn't help a clusterhead.  A lot of people have candida overgrowth, simply because of our western diet - not a lot of them are clusterheads, but I think if a clusterhead can kill their overgrowth, that they will notice a big difference.
You're sure not the first clusterhead to report an improvement when doing this diet.
Cool.

As to why I don't think chiropractic had much to do with it, our President of O.U.C.H. Canada is a chiropractor.  He's also a clusterhead.  I'm thinking that if chiro worked, he wouldn't be a clusterhead and we'd be out a heckuva good President!

The undecenoic acid is a fat,  created by cooking castor bean oil under the proper conditions.  It is also found naturally in sweat, where it probably protects against microbes. It is used in some commercial anti-fungal products (including Desinex).

Just speculating here, but people that have fungal infections could have their immune system activated/out of whack from the fungus ... I had a fungal infection a few months ago, and  that was followed by psoriasis (first time for me, but psoriasis and high interferon levels go hand in hand).

A relation between clusters and sinus problems has been noted in some people, while in general, cluster heads have high levels of antibodies to epstein barr virus and herpes.   I found one reference to undecenoic acid inhibiting herpes viruses, though the magnitude of the effect was uncertain.  So in theory, this compound might be fighting multiple types of infection.  It could also have a direct affect on the human metabolism - maybe by changing the properties of cell membranes, or altering cytokines.

Here's a link to a monograph on undecenoic acid (aka undecylenic acid):
http://www.thorne.com/pdf/journal/7-1/undecylenic_acid_monograph.pdf

Another fat with anti-fungal and anti-viral properties is mono-laurin (lauric acid) which is present in coconut oil.  A curry or two a week might also help.

2 p.m., I went into an attack that was worst then any attack I’ve ever had. Thank God, the neurologist had prescribed Hydrocodone for my pain if I had a really bad attack.

This horrendous headache went on for 12 hours, until 2 a.m, when the pain stopped and I could sleep.
 I WAS CURED!!!

NOT CLUSTERS

I agree Unsolved.

Bill

I'm sorry to say, but it may be that your Cluster diagnosis is wrong. The unilateral headache + autonomic symptoms do not prove it is CH. Severe migraine can have these symptoms AND come in groups.

Also, being "cured" by chiropractic is also pretty impossible. You can't cure a deep brain abnormality with manipulation, so I'm afraid Dr Moselle is making an impossible claim.

He may be labouring under the same misapprehension as many doctors nowadays that a cluster of unilateral headaches = Cluster Headaches. IT DOESN'T! If the attacks are lasting 12 hours, it is much more likely to be a group/cluster of migraines

I'm sorry you feel that way, Bill.  I think the twelve hour pain you felt really probably was the candida dying off.  The die off phase IS horrible.  When you say that your schedule began around noon and ended at 10 or 11 p.m., were you in constant pain that whole time, or is that when a series of attacks (with pain freedom between) would hit?
Whether you were/are or were/are not a clusterhead, I'm happy to hear that you've found relief for your pain.  If it is cluster, that's very cool that the candida diet ended your cycle.
I hope, if it is cluster, that your remission lasts forever.

Insensitive toward what?

Kevin

Bill removed his posts, but essentially he was saying that his chiropracter had 80% success rate curing cluster headaches. Bill was suffering badly before this but said that his HA's lasted 12 hours. Hence some sceptism was expressed.

Sorry Bill, if you are lurking, you don't need to leave but what this Dr claimed just isn't possible.

Wendy,
Thank you for your response.  I was confused as to why when seven people take the time to respond, it is considered insensitive.

Karla answered that what he was saying wasn't effective for her.  She kindly expressed also that she was happy for him that he had found something that has worked for him.

Bob P was humorous.

Thomas was first to respond to his 12 hour headache and was suspect as to if it was clusters.  Being the excellent person he is, he apologized if his saying so offended the poster.

Margi and Floridian gave very thorough answers which I would say was quite considerate of their time toward him.

Un_solved also was suspect as to if it was clusters he was speaking of.

Yourself Wendy, I thought you contributed to much insight also.

I failed to see any insensitivity as he perceived, and seemingly enough to anger him.  I wish I could get such consideration for every question I posed to complete strangers.  I'd say we are one hell'uva good group.  Just my opinion.

Thank you Wendy.

Kevin M
