Title: Oxygen Treatment
Post by scotg. on May 17th, 2004, 12:13pm
I finally got some Oxygen, but I have a question. I am a smoker and I GET IT!! No Smoking while the oxygen is flowin. I don't even consider the same room. However, I was wondering how long after I use the oxygen can I smoke a Cig. (not in the same room as the tanks)???
Also I need to find a good site to get a oxygen mask... Thanks Scot G. [smiley=huh.gif]

Hey  Scot,

Oxygen is not a combustable gas.  However, it does support combustion.  As a Respiratory Therapist I say just make yourself a treatment room for you to take your O2 in.  In this room there is never to be any smoking.  It is just a big time percation as you would have to have a WHOLE LOT of tanks in your room cranked open and even then you might not raise the actual percentage of O2 in the room by a significant amount.  If that is just not possible ten mins would more than suffice.

How did U get O2 without any delivery divice?  Nonmedical gases?  anyway.  Look in the phone book for a Home healthcare company and give them a call stop by ans just say Hey I need a Non Rebreather Mask.  Or ask your local fire department guys if you see them.  They get those things by the truck load!.

Good Luck

Most states require a prescription for the mask.
If you have the script a med supply will have them. If not, look on ebay or med supplies online.

Are you using med O2 or welding O2?

I got a script from the doctor, and the company delivered it just brought a cannula. I have been reading that the non rebreather mask works best. I played hell getting the oxygen, not from the doctor but the company that delivered it, and was hoping there was a simple way of getting the masks... Thanks a lot

I know I shouldn't but I have a cigarette in another room as soon as the pain has gone :-[

Kind of a relief thing probably, and it doesn't make the headache come back

I'm not advising this by the way!

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt. Cannula.....wrong answer. Ineffective. Until you get a decent mask, you can stick the O2 tube in your mouth, crank up the flow rate, and huff ho.

A good mask is nice, tho,

The room shouldn matter unless it's very small. The danger in smoking is clothing and furniture that can get O2 saturated. Chuck the canula and get a proper mask. My O2  company charges about $4.50 for a non-rebreather. If your's won't,  check online.
