Title: Gamma-Knife - Successful results Post by jeffhall on May 12th, 2004, 10:48am Hello, My name is Jeff Hall. I have been a member of this site for a few years, though rarely posted. My Bad. I was diagnosed as a CHRONIC Cluster Headache sufferer 4 years ago. I went to over 5 neurologists before I was properly diagnosed. On December 1, 2003 I underwent Gamma Knife radiosurgery (http://www.allsands.com/Misc1/gammakniferadi_uux_gn.htm). I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome. Before the procedure I experienced up to 3 attacks per day lasting up to 45 minutes each. I was honestly suicidal. My life was not good. Approx. 1 month after the procedure my attacks began to diminish gradually. It is now May, and I am almost completely “cured”. I have only had one single attack in the past couple of weeks. I am currently (and was before) taking Neurontin 1600Mb 3x day. I am afraid to stop taking it. Perhaps it is a crutch. Perhaps it is helping. Perhaps I have just been lucky lately. Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience. Perhaps someone can benefit from this knowledge. I would love to hear from anyone personally. If I can answer any questions or offer support in anyway I would love to hear from you. Very best regards, Jeff Hall Jhall30000@hotmail.com 770-433-9581 |

Title: Re: Gamma-Knife - Successful results Post by HypnoticFreddy on May 12th, 2004, 12:02pm Jeff, Gamma knife surgury has been mentioned here in the past. I don't know a lot about it, so I can't say. Neurontin has been posted on this board 5,000 times. I took it for other reasons, but it did nothing to abort or prevent me from CHs. Good luck. -Scott |

Title: Re: Gamma-Knife - Successful results Post by jeffhall on May 12th, 2004, 12:11pm Scott, It took a very high dosage of Neurontin to make a difference with me (I take 2 800mb pills 3 times a day). Thanks for your support and wishes. After 4 years SOMETHING is definitely working. Who am I to mess with fate? Thanks, Jeff |

Title: Re: Gamma-Knife - Successful results Post by jeffhall on May 16th, 2004, 5:51pm Notseinfeld, I fully agree I know you personally. Perhaps too personally. I was a bit drunk the other night. I'm not saying that you took advantage of me..... But what was with your constant chatter about the dwarfs in mini-skirts? I will always value that night too....but quit sending me flowers, okay? Very best regards. |

Title: Re: Gamma-Knife - Successful results Post by Karla on May 17th, 2004, 4:11pm Call me sceptical but I have heard others report early success only to find out before the year was out that the ch had returned full throttle. I wish you much success and pray this is your cure but I am not holding my breath. |

Title: Re: Gamma-Knife - Successful results Post by jeffhall on May 17th, 2004, 4:20pm Karla, Thank you for your kind words. I value and respect healthy skeptism. I am the same way. All I know is I am doing better after 4 years of daily torture. Heck, even if it does only last a year I am happy. Thanks! |

Title: Re: Gamma-Knife - Successful results Post by tommyD on May 19th, 2004, 7:16am tbp38 - Gamma knife worked well for Jeff, but results from this procedure have been mixed... The docs seem to be getting better at this, but some clusterheads have reported loss of nerve funtion and a return of the beast anyway. Cutting nerves is touchy stuff. 20 years chronic is a long tough haul, I can only imagine... If you're at the end of your rope, and the doc's meds don't work, maybe it's time to try Mother Nature's meds. www.clusterbusters.com There are short-term side effects :), and it doesnt work as well for chronics (est. success rate 65 percent) as it does for episodics (est. 90 percent). Research thoroughly, and remember it's not to be taken lightly, but neither is brain surgery... good luck whatever you try -tommyD |
