Title: Neurontin???... Post by Redd715 on Apr 26th, 2004, 8:52pm Pam has prescibed me this to help me get some sleep finally...anyone ever had this stuff help? She said she didn't think the 100mg would get me sleepy enough, so she scripted 300mg. I'm ready for a going to bed at 10PM and not waking up till 8AM..(please) I know I can't repair the damage this lack of sleep has done...but I need to try to get back up to speed, and back on a normal sleep cycle if I ever what to get some normaly back. I ran a search and what I have found related to this as a sleep aid is that it is almost as powerful as some controled meds, only reason this one isn't yet is because it's too costly, and not to many doctors other than those who treat chronic pain know the benifits of this drug for sleep. Now it's not supposed to have any adverse interactions with the verap or topo or imitrex. Let you know how it does tonight...so If I'm in chat and I head out early...(that would be a first) you'll know why... |

Title: Re: Neurontin???... Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 26th, 2004, 10:13pm Unsolved, I'd have to agree with the way you wrote the name of the drug there.... I took it twice....hated the crap. Gave me very bad side effects. The 2nd time, my new neuro put me on it to help with restless leg syndrome, and I told him I didn't want to take it because I had bad side effects the first time. He said, "well it is for RLS and it is a different dose and you'll just be taking it in the evening, so it shouldn't have the same effects." I was like, "ain't neurontin neurontin no matter what it's for?" Sho nuff, got the same side effects I had the first time around, and I quit the stuff on my own. Redd...to its benefit, it did make me sleep allllllllllllll the time. The last time, I was on 300mg at 6pm and 600mg at bedtime. Before that, I was on a lot higher dose, but I don't remember how much. Good luck with it.... Lizzie |

Title: Re: Neurontin???... Post by HypnoticFreddy on Apr 26th, 2004, 11:22pm Hi, I was 1st prescibed Neurontin for sleep and anxiety disorders (some studies show it to be helpful for long-term anxiety). I got all the way up to 2400 mg. I never felt a thing. -Scott |

Post by Redd715 on Apr 27th, 2004, 12:00am well rather low doses of most meds have a very good effect for me...for some reason...where others I'm totally imune too...like the opiates. I am immune to nearly all opiates but give me valium...another anti-anxiety...whoa...I'm out for hours...even on extreem low doses. I was to take 300 mg...nothing...so I took another 300 and now I'm finally getting drowzy. Thanks all...keep the advice comming. |

Lots of strange thoughts, maybe even lucid dreams, but no real SLEEP. Up with the freeking crows. Called Pam...waiting for her to call me back... damn it all I need sleep!!! I need to get back to a normal sleep pattern if I'm ever going to get back to life again in some sense of normalcy. If that is even possible. |

They are antianxieties used to help sleep on a temporary basis, as they can lead to dependencies. Recently, however..I haven't even been able to sleep on 2mg of ativan, but at other times in my past, it has helped me a lot. Sorry you can't sleep... also have only gotten 3 hours a night for the past couple of nights myself... Frustrating. Lizzie |

And it has to be something that doesn't have an interaction with what other meds I'm on. I'm a small person, rather petite. but this is a BIG problem. I know "they" have to be conservative. But daymn I just want sleep. That's not asking too much is it? |

I do not know what possesses him or when he sleeps, but this goes on almost every night. I have so many problems sleeping as it is...this just makes it much worse. I am very excited to move to Philadelphia...I think I will sleep better with ambulances pulling up to the hospital every 5 minutes than I do with the banging upstairs...grrr.... |

Post by Redd715 on Apr 27th, 2004, 1:35pm I've lived in this complex for just over a year...and there is a condo complex across the street and there has to be at least 5 cars whos alrms go off nightly. before all this I learned to sleep threw that. When I lived in IL there was a heavily used train track a block away. Trains came threw twice a night 3 am and 6 am. (I worked second shift) I learned to sleep threw that too. You can de-sensitize yourself to external stimulous. The internal stimulous or very nearby stuff like very noisy neighbors is much more difficult. Internal meaning that freaking drippy water faucet or the bang bang bang of noisy hydronic heat registers that need the air blown out of them. (Tell that to my landlord)...ROFLMAO |

Had a girlfriend once who couldn't quite understand this hang-up :-/ I just need white noise to block out the outside world when I sleep. I have been doing this since I was a boy, so it kind of stuck. Now complete silence at night freaks me out. I cant sleep. Won't even try. They make white-noise generators. -Scott |

Title: Re: Neurontin???... Post by Redd715 on Apr 27th, 2004, 2:30pm Every summer it takes a few nights to get used to the sound of the fan running in the room every night. If it's not that warn that it's really needed I jsut turn it away from me so it's not actually blowing at me, and turn it to low. But for me the more silent the better. And the blacker the better. But I get used to it. I've learned to adjust to my surroundings. So many things in this worls we can't contol. Focus on those things that are the most important is my phiolosophy, and don't sweat the small stuff. But what is small for me may be a priority to someone else...OK now I know I'm way over tired I'm soap boxing here... |

Post by Redd715 on Apr 27th, 2004, 2:57pm I have not run a search on the stuff here but I did a full web search on it and I did find some double blind research studies regarding it for use in other than epilepsy or restless leg syndrom. Sleep was a key word I used in these searched before I took it. However, the doseing they used form the sleep study was 1800mg for 14 of the 15 "normal" patients and 1500mg for the last patient as adverse effects of aggitation were seen at the 1800 mg dose in this individual. Other information I read on this was was docs who scripted this for patients with other chronic pain (did not state what the sorce of the pain was) who had trouble sleeping due to the pain and it helped them get the sleep they needed. |
