Title: Fresh Research - PNP inhibitors Post by floridian on Apr 20th, 2004, 2:42pm This is basic bio but could be relevant. If so, it is probably years away, but worth thinking about. Also ties into the lymphatoid papulosis thread. A new class of drugs is being developed for treating diseases involving the proliferation of T-cells, including T-cell leukemias, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease. http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2004-04/aps-ams041104.php While not listed in that article, cluster headaches may also be respondent to PNP inhibitors. Cluster heads show pronounced activation of their T-cells. The PNP enzyme is linked to purine and xanthine metabolism (caffeine is a xanthine). If nothing else, this will give us one more tool to probe the workings of the beast. |
