Title: MycoBags Post by Rock_Lobster on Apr 5th, 2004, 4:07pm Hello all. Taking up farming. A few Q's... 1 - How many of the small MycoBags would one need to handle the payload of 4 syringes? 2 - MycoBags come in Grain, Straw, Sclerotia and Wood substrates. Since most sites suggest Brown Rice Flour, should I feel safe with Grain substrate? Mnay thx in advance. Longest. Episode. Ever. Ready to try something fresh. Rock Lobster |

Title: Re: MycoBags Post by notseinfeld on Apr 5th, 2004, 6:52pm 1 Syringe is good for 2 myco bags in my experience. Since we all probably order the same stuff you likely received a 4cc syringe as I did. Worked like a charm. Good farming! |

Title: Re: MycoBags Post by fubar on Apr 6th, 2004, 5:45pm 1 syringe per bag is a good way to go. The more material you put in the bag, the faster it will colonize (assuming conditons are reasonable). The most important thing with these things is to be extra careful about contamination when you inject, and to have lots of patience waiting for it to fruit. -Fu |

Title: Re: MycoBags Post by forgetfulnot on Apr 17th, 2004, 3:06pm IMHO the Myco bag route is expensive and not all that reliable. The PF tech is so simple and reliable and inexpensive it's the only way to go for a small farmer. Lee |

Title: Re: MycoBags Post by fubar on Apr 19th, 2004, 11:30am Lee, Of course it's a tiny bit more expensive using the mycobag, and yields are not like some other methods, but you can't beat the simplicity. I can tell you from experience, when I was in cycle I didn't have the time or patience to 'figure it out'. Doing it the mycobag way was pretty much fire-and-forget. In my condition, that was a huge lifesaver. I know I wouldn't have been able to produce anything using the other methods, and I couldn't afford to have a failed crop or two while I learned. In my case, elegance and yield were secondary to expediency and simplicity. Different strokes, I guess. |
