Title: Episodic Cycle Avoidance Post by Giovanni on Apr 2nd, 2004, 7:49am I have had episodic cluster headaches for almost eleven years with the dominant cycle beginning in late February and ending in mid June to the middle of July. This cycle has been predictable and persistent with the exception of one year in which the cycle did not materialize for unknown reasons. Last year the headache cycle ended on June 14th with the introduction of melatonin. After this bout of clusters, I decided to try the alternative treatment to try to avoid my next one scheduled to hit the following February. After much reading on the subject my farm was started and successful (EU). The preventive doses were as follows: 12-23-03 1.7 grams 7:30 P.M. level 1.5+ 01-11-04 2.0 grams 1:15 P.M. level 2.0 02-15-04 1.5 grams 2:00 P.M. level 1.5- The following notes are from my diary: Friday 20th February Kip 1.5 around 4:00 taken some O2 quickly gone Saturday 21, 04 Kip 2.5 from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. two quick cups of coffee plus some 02 around 3:30 P.M. quickly dispatched Sunday 22, 04 Kip 1 at 8:00-9:00 A.M. barely noticeable light shadow At 4:00 P.M. dosed with .5 gram tea Monday 23, 04 Kip 1 randomly throughout day….good day Tuesday-Wednesday February 24, 25 Minor shadowing pf Thursday February 26 Kip 2 (very light) some O2 about 7 P.M. Friday 27, 04 Minor shadow early AM Still pf Friday 28-Monday March 15 PF Level 0 March 16 Tuesday – March 19 Friday Level 1 no pain but minor shadows lingering Dose (March 19) 11:15 A.M. .5grams EU (more of a persistent head pressure) March 20 – April 2, 2004 Pain level 0—Occasional head pressure— At varying times of day I am totally confident that if this therapy had not been initiated, I would be in full blown cycle by now. Last year I stopped counting imitrex injections after 125 stat doses. I am currently taking verapamil @360; B-complex 50s X 2 a day; melatonin a couple times a week (sleep patterns are still wacky). For the next several months I will do small maintenance doses of .5 each month; then go to every 3 months with 1.5. In conclusion, this treatment has been a total success in my eyes and the first pain free spring in years. Giovanni ;;D |

Title: Re: Episodic Cycle Avoidance Post by Giovanni on Apr 2nd, 2004, 12:15pm The shadows now are almost non-existant. I do feel some head pressure from time-to-time during the day. My sleep patterns are not normal--as I become very tired early and wake up about 4:00 A.M.. I am totally pain free. I feel like I've gotten my life back! Anybody thinking of this, do your homework and plan ahead. That's the best advice I can give you. John ;;D |
