Title: to those of you who apply the shroom method Post by Nathan on Mar 31st, 2004, 7:52pm just a quick question off the top of my head. if you use the shroom method, do you take regular meds at the same time or would that be a bad thing? example.....dopeymax + shrooms = death? or diltiazim, dopymax and clonozepam + shrooms = good results. just wondering how its all handled. |

Title: Re: to those of you who apply the shroom method Post by tommyD on Apr 1st, 2004, 6:43am Nathan - Just a quick answer off the top of my head... A lot of meds will interfere with the shroom treatment. Check out the "A thought about shrooms" thread for Flash's rundown. Prednisone will interefere, for sure. Triptans will likely interfere, though a few have gfotten away with an Imitrex dose or two. From reading reports, my impression is imitrex should be avoided AFTER taking shrooms as well as before. My own ignorant speculation: Imitrex dooesn't interfere directly with indole ring hallucinogens; the shrooms do something to your brain and the imitrex undoes whatever that is. Ergotamine will interefere Methysergide is dangerous in conjunction with shrooms Opiates seem to interfere (and usually aren't a good choice anyway) On the other hand... Verapamil might be okay (won't interfere), though some say its easier without it. Lithium doesn't seem to interfere with the treatment, but it will enhance the psychoactive effects of the hallucinogen - in other words, shrooms and lithium may take you on more of a ride than you bargained for. Oxygen is no problem. Water X3 is no problem, if it works for you... Other non-med methods of coping - hot, cold, exercise, etc. - no problem. Many find shrooms help O2, water, etc work better. A lot of drugs, I/We just don't know. Anyone have any thought on melatonin? Safest bet, grow some shrooms, (cubensis is easiest to grow, and about mid-range in terms of potency) and get a tank of Oxygen. Remember, this is all still experimental....whatever you decide to do, please let us know how it goes. -tommyD |

That's my take on it as well. For a few days after taking psilocybin, the serotonin-regulating system in your brain is in a state of flux. The idea is that you want it to settle into the "post-psilocybin" mode rather than the "post-Imitrex" mode. Quote:
Agreed. Verapamil might be okay. We have conflicting indications on this one. Quote:
I will go further and say that Lithium definitely will take you on more of a ride than you bargained for. The intensifying effect of Lithium is no secret to "recreational" users. I strongly recommend against taking any psychedelic while there is any Lithium still in your system. pinky |

Title: Re: to those of you who apply the shroom method Post by miapet on Apr 4th, 2004, 12:13pm if you are taking them for b/p, you need to keep taking them . . .unless you can do other things (which i'm guessing isn't possible at this time) to keep your b/p under control. |

Title: Re: to those of you who apply the shroom method Post by K-MAN on Apr 12th, 2004, 4:38pm I just started another CH episode last week. Dosed with shrooms last Friday and have only had 2 minor attacks (Kip 5) break through about 2 hours after falling asleep each time. For the first breakthrough attack I shot an Imitrex injection; I had business meetings the next morning and had to get some sleep that night. (It was two days after the shrooms, and the Imitrex worked fine.) For the 2nd attack I just put an ice pack over the occiptal region in the back of my head and toughed out the pain. It was only a Kip 5, right? After about 2 hours I went back to sleep but had severe muscle soreness the next day where the pain happens. I've had great success with the shroom therapy over the past year, and I typically start taking Verapamil 180SR the next day when I'm sure the episode has begun. That's a relatively low dose compared to what some of you out there take, but it works for me. This combo has been good for me. Also, this time I had some trigger-point therapy done on my neck and head and around my eyes. You can find experienced massage therapists who know and practice this treatment. This helped relieve the extreme muscle tightness and soreness after the attacks. Regular massage can be good too, but the trigger-point therapy gets to the heart of the matter to release those knotted muscles. It only took 15 minutes/session. Every little thing helps. No attacks for several days, and I can sleep through the night! Hope this info helps you. K-MAN |
