I can't imagine being on IV DHE for too long. Especially for a month or so. My legs would start hurting after about 6 days or so. Fingers and toes would begin to turn white. It just seems like something you couldn't stay on for too long. They wouldn't even let me do the IM injections everyday. And I've never heard of anyone doing it IV at home.

Don't get me wrong though. I like to get IV DHE every now and then. It gives me a break from the HA's everytime. It's just a short break. I'm sure I'll do it again.

I used IM injections of DHE for a long time, but I am not currently doing this.  I've also been inpatient for IV DHE lots of times too.  I believe the max that my doctor would do it was 7-10 days?  He said that is the max time it is safe for!  Maybe the wording of the article is a bit odd.  It is talking about IV DHE yet stating that patients feared the injections.  You don't inject it if it is IV!  IM injections can easily be done at home.  I'm not sure I'd feel that IV DHE is safe at home, though!

At any rate, interesting...

I went in for IV DHE and it didn't do a thing for me long term.  It aborted the cluster I was having at the time but didn't keep them away.
