Title: predinisone side effect Post by genss on Mar 17th, 2004, 11:48am I have been on prednisone for 2 weeks. it always makes my wrists and knees really weak. I tried to taper off a little early because of this and this morning at 1:30 am my knees were hurting so bad i didn't get back to sleep until 6 am. I woke up at 7am and I could not walk. It was an hour later before the pain went away and I can walk but not far. My doctor doesn't think it is the prednisone but i remember the weakness in my knees from last time i took the prednisone, only it wasn't as bad and i could walk. Has anyone else had this problem? |

Title: Re: predinisone side effect Post by HypnoticFreddy on Mar 17th, 2004, 12:29pm I have taken like 100 medications in my lifetime. I am lucky to be quite tolerant of most. I think Prednisone was one of the worst drugs I ever took. I had all sorts of weird side-effects, plus it made my face break-out!!! -Freddy |

Title: Re: predinisone side effect Post by PatFan on Mar 17th, 2004, 4:03pm It made my hips so sore it was getting to the point that I could not walk......Not a very good trade-off for relieving the headahes when you still have to walk during everyday life.... |

Title: Re: predinisone side effect Post by eyes_afire on Mar 17th, 2004, 6:17pm Yes, one time I became very sore. Arms and legs sore and weak. It was the prednisone. FWIW... never stop taking prednisone abruptly. When it's time to taper, do it only under the supervision of a physician. --- Steve |

Title: Re: predinisone side effect Post by UN_SOLVED on Mar 17th, 2004, 8:22pm Prednisone shouldn't be used for very long. It has tons of side effects. You didn't mention what dosage you were taking. ?? Listen to the others and don't quit or taper off without your doctors knowledge. Abruptly stopping this med can cause serious problems !! Unsolved |

Title: Re: predinisone side effect Post by genss on Mar 18th, 2004, 3:57pm I was taking 6 10mg for 3 days, then 5 for 3 days all the way down to 1 for 3 days. I couldn't walk again this morning either. My neuro said it is ok not to take anymore since i was down to 1 a day. He said the pain and weakness is from the prednisone and that it should get better within 2 weeks. It was so not worth it because I was almost a month into my CH when I started taking the 2nd scrip. Now I can't walk at all in the morning(not to mention the pain) and I can't walk more than a few steps at a time the rest of the day. Just walking from my office to the fax room is awful. And the bathroom is all the way at the end of the hallway. I will never take prednisone again. My neuro finally gave me a scrip for oxygen for when the CH come back. I could cry when I think of all of you who have to deal with this all the time. It breaks my heart. It makes me feel so selfish for feeling sorry for myself. |

Title: Re: predinisone side effect Post by kim on Mar 18th, 2004, 7:31pm Prednisone has caused many to have mild to severe joint pain. You should talk to your physician about the symptoms. When taking a medication there is always a description of possible side effects....these side effects can vary in intensity......some are to be tolerated -- but some are to be taken note of and can lead to discontinuance. I took Prednisone once. It was supposed to "interrupt" the cycle. My joints got so bad, it was like i had cerebal palsey. Could not walk at ALL. Prednisone is a steroid. NEVER take this medication for granted and believe me it can SCREW YOU UP> This medication is to be taken with strict advice and continueing communication with a physician. Wishing you PFDAN and best luck |

Title: Re: predinisone side effect Post by sandie99 on Mar 19th, 2004, 5:32am I didn't have pain in my knees nor wrists, but my back hurted like hell! :( I had 4-week treatment and that was sure enough. By the way, has anybody else got this nice, illusionary feeling of happiness during predinisone...? I did... Best wishes & PF days, sandie99 |

Title: Re: predinisone side effect Post by Renee on Mar 19th, 2004, 10:40pm Sandie, No....definitely no illusion of happiness here when on pred. :( The first couple of days my hips, back and legs ache like i've been hit by an 18 wheeler. After that, I go from Angel to Bi*ch in 10 seconds. Major steroid rage for me but the good thing is I have no CH when I've got pred. >:( >:( >:( >:( Can't live with it cause I gotta have bones to hold me up for many more years. ;) renee |
