Title: I cant believe this!
Post by cleon on Mar 12th, 2004, 12:27am
[smiley=huh.gif] I ignored the warning signs and didnt use the shrooms quickly enough.  (I thought I could beat it - one would think I would know better after 30 years of this shit, but at least I havent given up!)  Anyway the cycle set in - very agressive and I was worn out in 2 weeks and decided I might have to put myself into hospital - definenlty not coping!!
Out of the blue a friend popped in.  'Here' she said - try one of these - you never know.  I replied 'I will take one, but it wont work - nothing does'.  Guess what
I HAD NO PAIN FOR 8 HOURS, and I was at that point where I had constant shadows and electric shocks scooting around.
I now take 1 every 12 hours.  They are a slow release tablet.
150gms of Tramadol Hydrochloride, called Tramal SR.
Nothing has ever worked for me.  Has anyone tried them?
If you do and it works, I would love to hear from you.

Opioid medicines are a trigger for some people here.

Tramodol, aka Ultram

Also available with acetamenophen as Ultracet

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY
Pharmacodynamics

ULTRAM is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic. Although its mode of action is not completely understood, from animal tests, at least two complementary mechanisms appear applicable: binding of parent and M1 metabolite to µ-opioid receptors and weak inhibition of reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin.

Uses
Tramadol is used for pain relief.

How To Use
Take this medication by mouth as prescribed. It is usually taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Use this medication exactly as prescribed. Do not increase your dose, use it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed because this drug can be habit-forming. Also, if used for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using this drug without your doctor's approval. When used for extended periods, this medication may not work as well and may require different dosing. Consult your doctor if the medication stops working well.

Ihave used tramadol in the past, for tension type headaches. They never worked and most importantly *DO NOT* take with alcohol, any amount of alcohol. As witnessed by two of my closest clusterbuds, Randy an Joe. I had half a beer and then I started fading fast, i felt like I was going to pass out, but not without puking my guts out first. I had to ride it out. never again....

I tried Tramadol Hydrochloride in the past -- even posted about it several years ago.

For me it worked at the beginning of a cycle before my headaches get much past Kip 5 (normally around two weeks duration). It also worked at the end of a cycle, when things are winding down rapidly (normally one to two weeks duration).

But during the cycle proper, when The Beast has firmly established himself, eating Ultram pills is no more effective for me than eating jelly beans. I also found the darn stuff makes me itchy, as well as providing the usual opioid constipation.

That is only my experience. I'm glad to hear it works better for you.

I am in my 3rd week now - I was getting hit 4-6 times a day.
The night attacks were monstrous, always 3 attacks for an hour up to 2 hours. During the day I had a continual headache which broke out when ever it felt like it, accompanied with electic shocks.  On the Tramal I am very dopey during the day, but
NO PAIN. During the night I am MUCH better too.
Last night as soon as I went to sleep I got hit - I could tell it was a 10/10, but the pain was 'deep and dead' - I took 4 disprin and it was gone in 15 mins.  So far so good.  I hope you're not right Pinky, in that when the cycle gets more intense it will cease to work.  I dont know if this cycle could get any more intense - it went straight to the top right from the start.
