Title: ? for zonegran users Post by jayhawk on Mar 8th, 2004, 3:23pm Hi, I started zonegran about 3 1/2 months ago, first at 100 mg. at night, then 200 mg. about 2 1/2 months ago. About a month ago, I started feeling nauseous and it hasn't gone away. I have the nausea pretty much all the time (and no, I'm not pregnant), some times worse than others. Has anyone else experienced this? Will it ever go away? I have a follow-up with my neuro in a few weeks and will discuss with him then, but wanted to know how prevalent a problem it was, and if there was anything any of you guys had done to successfully combat it. Normal things like Pepto Bismol, etc. don't help. Thanks. |

Title: Re: ? for zonegran users Post by t_h_b on Mar 8th, 2004, 6:14pm I never took it but nausea is a possible side effect of Zonegran. If you are having nausea or other side effects and can definitely attribute it to the drug and there is an acceptable substitute your MD could change your prescription. Zonegran can adversely affect your liver and kidneys so if you have had any problems with those organs or if you start having problems, notify your MD immediately. I am a little surprised that the nausea started five months after starting the medication and wonder if it might be more easily attributed to something else. You mention that you are not pregnant. Since you considered that a possibility, if you did a self-test you might want to repeat it or go to a MD for testing to be sure. You definitely do NOT want to become pregnant on this medication beause it is known to cause fetal abnormalities or embryo death. Consider using TWO forms of birth control while on Zonegran unless you would be willing to consider abortion if you became pregnant. Eating ice chips or saltines or smelling rubbing alcohol can sometimes help with nausea. Just be careful about smelling alcohol if you think doing that might trigger a cluster attack. |
