Post by violet on Mar 6th, 2004, 12:02am
Anyone here use valuim, xanax, lorazapam, ativan or any other benzodiazapine?  Does it help?  Have any of  you had a bad reaction to these drugs?
Thanks,
Vi

Nothing in the medical literature to suggest that they will directly help with clusters. However, they would ease the anxiety which so many folks have as they anticipate or have a cluster attack.

neuro gave D a small script of xanax at last visit . .it does nothing for the h/as but it does help the anxiety/agitation . . . .he doesn't take it every night . . and we break them in half most of the time . . .we are already looking at moving away from them, as we don't want to trade one pain for another. . .

the valium is a muscle relaxant also, was originally approved as a muscle relaxant at lower doses, then it was discovered to work well as a sedative at higher doses.

i take 5mg at bedtime every night and i sleep until 0450 before i get woke up.  it also helps with the neck pain that comes along with ch.

xanax is good for panic attacks or to knock you out cold!

klonazepam is a good med for daily intake to prevent panic/anxiety attacks with really no side effects if taken at bedtime.

no bad side effects in my experiences with the above except more sleep before the demon wakes me.

good luck
renee

I've got a little stockpile of xanax I keep handy all the time. I used to have anxiety all the time real bad and it's the only thing I've found that helps.
I haven't taken it much lately because I haven't really had the anxiety, but I tried it last night!
I ate a bar and a half (I have a bit of a tolerance), thats 3 mg. And I actually got some sleep last night!

Ok ok ok... So I'm not sure exactly how many headaches I had last night, but I think it was about 4, maybe 5... But that's a hell of alot better than one every 30 mins like I've had for the last 4 previous nights!

And as an added bonus, you have no trouble getting back to sleep!!!

I think for me it reduced the number oh ha's, made them a hell of alot more bearable, and I certainly slept better! And it makes you feel soooo good. ;) :)

Goodbye milk and cookies, Hello Xanax!

i can't think of one way any of the above would EVER help a clusterhead.

Are any of these meds discussed here in this thread addictive?

Prense:

Yes; not all equally so but they can be nasty with prolonged withdrawal distress.

Which is not an argument for avoiding them. They can be life savers when used with supervision and judgment.

I gotta agree w/ Kim on this one. Anything that makes me sleepy is just inviting the beast for a dance !

XANAX nooooo!

go to battery park in manhattan and check out the xanax heads! worse than all the junkies and crackheads combined (been there done that)
you can go cold turkey off of H and after 4 days of hell,  youre okay, try to stop xanax and you die!

Omigod...
That's more absurd than my "O2 blows up with water" remark...
Yes it can be habit forming...
Addictive, no.
Comparing it to H!?
Die off xanax?
C'Mon... Your joking right?

Hypnotic Freddy:

I saw you wrote the following:
Mixing with other drugs like alcohol and barbituates can be very fatal

Just wondering if there were some that are just 'slightly fatal'. ?

I'd be interested to see what a group of "xanax junkies" look like hanging out in a park! [smiley=laugh.gif]
I bet they're an exciting bunch!
The ones that aren't passed out must have some seriously stimulating conversation.
I'd like to see that episode of cops where they bust them in the park! Talk about a slow speed chase! [smiley=laugh.gif]

Huuuuh?
Whaaaaa?
Uuuuugh... ::)

I'm with UN-SOLVED  here. These meds slow me down, and I just wouldn't do that  - I'm asking for an attack from hell if I do, followed by probably 2 more in the space of 4 hours.

Just wanted to add that for the last couple of months that my pdoc has had me on xanix.  I didn't know thats what it was.  The bottle has a generic name on it.  All I got to say is that for the last 2 weeks I went off my patch to see what would happen and I have not had any headaches.  Now note I am chronic and this could be my 2 weeks a year I am pain free although I haven't had a pain free day in years. All I can say is I felt a directive from God to go off the patch and see what happens.  So far so good!

Exactly superpain that is what it is.  I am on the duragesic patch 50mcg every 3 days.  It has kept me pain free for the last 6 months.  I suffer from really bad anxiety/panic attacks and didn't care what the dr gave me as long as it works.  And it has.  No i didn't ask any questions.  Just took the script and walked with it to the pharmacy.

I too have very high anxiety levels alot, and sometimes have mild panic attacks. Xanax is a life saver when it comes to that!
Are you saying you have xanax patches? :o

No xanix patches.  I take the duragesic patch which is fentanol to keep my lovely chronic ch under control and give me a quality of life that i don't have otherwise.
