Title: starting  neurontin soon
Post by denisebyrd on Mar 5th, 2004, 6:37pm
Has anyone out there tried neurontin? I have tried verapamil and depakote, both without success. My doc started me on lexapro two weeks ago. It's an ant depressive SSRI and after 3 weeks of that he wants to try neurontin. I just wondered if anyone out there has tried it and had success or had bad side effects from it? I guess at this point I could give a rats ass about side effects because the headaches are escalating in frequency even though I am a chronic. Denise

I took Neurontin for a couple of months (before I had clusters) and never did get used to the side effects.  No fun at all.  I would personally try almost anything before being on that again.  Probably you won't have the problems I had with it, my MD seemed a little surprised at how much it affected me.

Have you tried melatonin?  Talk to your MD about it.  It's helped many people, including chronics.  I take 0.5mg but people take all sorts of doses up to 12mg.  Maybe you could give that a shot first.  Also you might try lithium with verapamil--that's helped many people, too.

If my CH gets out of control again, I'm going for the psilocybin.

Good luck.

Hi,

I am on neurontin now 2,700 mgs a day. This is the second time that I've been on it.The first time this other Dr. had me start on a very high dose and I couldn't handle it.  As for side affects, just start out on a very low dose and bring it up SLOWLY, I was told that if I started to have side effects from the higher dose to go back down for awhile and try again. That seemed to really help this time. I am not really sure if its helping or not, since I started it in the middle of a cycle, which still hasn't ended YET.

Sorry I really couldn't be of much help
