Are there tanks that we can use that are smaller than E tanks? My O2 supplier here in State College said they wouldn't give me anything smaller than E tank if I was running at 15LPM. Haven't checked with the one at home yet, but I'm going home this weekend for spring break. Any ideas before I go check into it some more? Thanks!

I bought an e tank yesterday and noticed they had a couple that were smaller, sorry don't know what they are called but one was half the size of the e and the other was a little smaller.

At 15 they might not last long, but for certain situations, i can see where that would be handy.

you get a smaller tank and it will not last as long at 10 to 15 lpm. do you really want to run out if you have a bad weekend at home?

E tank is good for about 4 uses at 12lpm for 15 minutes...

I agree, I tryed a smaller tank but it just wasn't enough air time to do any good.

Don't know if an equivalent exists over there Lizzie, but we have a cylinder here called a CD cylinder. It is made by BOC (British Oxygen Company) and it is brilliant because it is portable and has it's own built in high flow (up to 15l/min) regulator.

It has enough in it to last for days, but you can carry it around in the back of the car if you are away or out.
I keep one at home always as it gets me through the first few days when a cycle hits, by which time I could get a large cylinder in.

I can't imagine this is the only country that has this???

Yes I know this. I have an E tank at home, and I have 3 E tanks in my apartment. What I need is one that I can take with me on short trips driving or keep at the music school in my locker. My current tanks are not feasable for that at all, and as O2 is my one and only abortive for CH that I can take right now (since I'm on a few other really interactive and dangerous meds for some other things), I need to have it close by. An example would be something I mentioned in another thread about getting hit while on stage about to sing in a concert. If I had had a smaller tank (even if it only lasts through one use) backstage, I could have dealt with the problem instead of suffering through it. I also got hit during my anatomy class not that long ago, and I didn't have time to go home to my tanks since I have lab immediately after class. Again, if I'd had a smaller tank at school....couilda not had to suffer so much..

Anyways...that's why I ask. I already have tanks at the only places I would be long term.

So yeah, that's it.

Sorry Lizzie, haven't followed much about any history of your situation with other abortives, my being recently back to the boards again. I carry imitrex when mobile or at work, oxygen at home. Has saved MANY a work day.
Yes, I see your need for a transportable abortive when mobile that can be accessed easily. Hope your inquiry gets you some results so this doesn't obstruct your ambitions.

Yea I can't take triptans right now because I'm on methergine. Hope to be getting off of it soon. That rules out the use of my DHE, too! Sucky... A few other meds I can't take because I had blood clotting problems a couple months ago, and now I'm on coumadin....listed as having more drug interactions than any other med.. blah Anyways, I get to stop taking it on April 2.

My doc felt that O2 was the only safe abortive for me right now. I have thorazine for daily headache, but it does nothing for the clusters for me. That's why I really need an easy to carry around version of the O2.

I'm in my first cycle of CH since early November, but the frequency and severity of attacks has really been reduced on the verapamil. Still doesn't stop em all for me though!

I am not sure if this is helpful, but it does give you a very portable oxygen supply...but it is expensive.

I had to take a tank in today for a refill so I asked about something small even if it was just enough for one h/a. This lady claims to be a respiration therepist. The only thing she had available the she felt would work was what is called a " D " tank. It's just over half the size of an " E ". Not real small, but still much more portable than an e tank. The only problem (for me) was that my e-tank regulator won't fit. You have to buy a different regulator for it. If I had the bucks, I would've went for it. I figure it would probably handle two h/a's.

It would be a nice option for certain situations, and I'll probably pick one up someday unless there's something better out there.

Unfortunately it looks like that thing only gives 2 lpm max and the gauge is built-in so you can't change it.

What I'm looking for is an 02 generator the size of a credit card that puts out 20lpm and can run continuously for three years on a rechargeable watch battery so I can keep it in my wallet to use at any time.

Should be under $20.00, too.

Yeah, they had one of those there, too, but they wanted 30 bucks for it, and I couldn't see paying anything over 20. ;;D

Hehehe I forgot my prescription at Penn State...2.5 hours away from here! So now I can't check with the place at home afterall! Duhhhh dumb me!

The D tank is pretty nice for in the car (properly secured) or in the office. It's small, probably did me for 2 good bouts, but my otherwise-ripoff oxygen supplier actually would refill and leave as many of these each week as I ever wanted. I think at one point I was going through 7 a week in addition to an E tank or Two (or some combination of the above.)

The D tank isn't credit-card-sized, but it's less than half the size of an E Tank. The basic problem here is physics. You can only hold so much pressure in these tanks, so you can only fit a certain amount of gas per cubic foot. No amount of technology available today is going to change that enough to increase that capacity per cubic foot by much. Our tanks are holding approx 2500 pounds per sq inch as it is. That's a lot of pressure.

thanks for the info fubar. I think I'll look into it. I'd like to think of it as an emergency tank. Do you mind if I ask what you paid for the total setup or are you getting the d under insurance?
