Title: Re: Prednisone and Diabetes Post by Lizzie2 on Feb 24th, 2004, 6:08pm Steroids are known to raise blood sugar in many people. When I was in the hospital, I was put on steroids, and along with that came insulin injections every few hours for me! I'm not a diabetic...in fact my blood sugar is usually around 70, but my blood sugar was quite a ways over 200 on the steroids. Just make sure you check your blood pressure quite often! Are you on a prednisone taper or a steady dose of prednisone for awhile? Please be careful! Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: Prednisone and Diabetes Post by deacon on Feb 24th, 2004, 7:34pm Thanks Lizzie. I'm on a ten day taper starting at 60 mg a day. I put myself on a very strict diet for I was told that I should expect blood suger counts above 300. I'm not close to that yet but my blood pressure is getting some what higher. Thanks for your info Deacon |

Title: Re: Prednisone and Diabetes Post by Lizzie2 on Feb 24th, 2004, 10:26pm I'm glad it is just short term for you!! Hopefully in that short of a time period it won't shoot your sugars up too high! A headache med is no good if it harms your body in life-threatening ways! I really hope that it helps you get some quality pain free time! Best of luck! Lizzie :) |
