Title: FINALLY: A SOLUTION
Post by boriskaz on Feb 20th, 2004, 4:35am
Following over 20 years of suffering from clusters I have last year found a specialist who has prescribed a cocktail of drugs which when taken after the first cluster arrives TOTALLY solves the problem.

Here is what he gives me:

Verapmil 80mg first day, 160mg second and 240mg third, which is where I stay for approx. 10-14 days

Indomethacin 25mg 3 times a day for 6 days

Ergothamine 1 tablet of 1mg every night before bedtime

THE MAGIC MIX!!!

I still have the feeling of attacks during the first couple of days with mild pain, but it takes complete care of it...

THE DEVIL HAS GONE

The specialist is Dr. Mosek who is the Head of the neurological department at the Ichilov Clinic in Tel Aviv Israel. He has been involved with Cluster sufferers for a long time and is extremely helpfull!

If you need help or have any questions i am there for you.

Glad you found something that works for you!!

Lots of discussion on verapamil and ergotamine here. Indomethacin is usually used for cervicogenic headaches, where it is very effective.  It usually isn't helpful with clusters by itself, but in combination with the others, maybe it contributes.

amazing, i take  1 pill a day and  clusters are pushed into  1 per 24 hour cycle and if i  preempt it by taking a pill before i
get the cluster i have no headache at all that cycle...

i found u guys cause i was looking for info on other users to see what the long range effects and  conditions to taking this  would be.but i have not seen a mention of it so far on this site

so, help me out here, am i living in fool's paradice, smile,
or this is just so new , or maybe  bad things happen..

this drug is a vasoconstrictor and serotonin antagonist
is there something else i neeeed to know here?

Relpax is one of the triptans (eletriptan).  All of the cautions that go with the triptan family would apply to Relpax.  It targets receptors that are more prevalent in the cranial blood vessels.

Usually the triptans are used as an abortive not as a preventative.  Taking one every day is not recommended but many ClusterHeads do use triptans frequently.

Read the cautions at the following link and pay special attention to the part about taking it with other triptans:

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/relpax_pi.htm

You can hit the other tabs on that page for more detailed information on side effects, precautions, etc.

Good luck!
